After serving in the military and starting her family, Hanna discovered that protecting those who work in manufacturing had been a calling throughout her life.

Taking care of others is a throughline in Hanna Butler’s life. A 2022 graduate of NTC’s Safety Engineering Technology Associate Degree, Butler returned to the classroom after serving her country and beginning a family.

Once she re-entered the workforce as a package handler for FedEx, Butler learned that she enjoyed the warehouse industry and manufacturing, which inspired her to pursue an education in the field that blended her military background in safety.

“The protection of other people is what had drawn me into the Safety Technology and Engineering program,” Butler said.

According to Butler, she earned her degree successfully due to the flexibility of online learning.

“The flexibility with the program at NTC was fantastic for me; it gave me the chance to still enjoy my life, but also be able to work and be present,” Butler said.

NTC instructors also recognized Butler’s ability to succeed in and out of the classroom, selecting her to receive the Outstanding Graduate recognition at her commencement ceremony.

Butler said she hopes to inspire her daughter to see that no matter where her life takes her, it will lead to learning.

She said that being able to make a difference in someone’s life is a rewarding part of her work.

“I feel a lot of pride in what I do," said Butler. ‘I really love what I do now.”
