The 2024 annual Foster Parent Workshop will offer two presentations and will be available to attend in person at the Wausau campus or virtually via Zoom. 

 

Supporting LGBTQ+ Youth in Foster Care, Aimee Lehouillier, MSW, LCSW

This presentation will include information and facts regarding LGBTQ+ youth in foster care.  Informing caregivers of what unique dilemmas LGBTQ+ youth in foster care may be experiencing in their mental health.  This information is designed to help support foster parents in their awareness, openness, and presence for LGBTQ+ youth.  I want you to leave the training with information, resources, and support in understanding some of the unique mental health concerns that LGBTQ+ youth may experience (coming to your home with diagnoses and/or new symptoms that may emerge with possible new diagnoses to come) while in foster care.

Aimee Lehouillier is a licensed clinical social worker with a master’s degree in social work from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (2006) and a bachelor’s degree in social work from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire (2004).  Aimee works for Portage County Health and Human Services (PCHHS) as the mental health clinician for our outpatient clinic and in-home family therapy program. Aimee is a comprehensive community services provider, serving adults, couples, youth, and families who experience struggles with severe and persistent mental illness.  Aimee has the privilege of working with people who trust me with their life stories and allow me to help them navigate healthier ways of living with mental illness. 

 

Understanding the Juvenile Sex Offender, Shawne Judnic, MS, LPC

This presentation will be an overview of the myth and facts about juvenile sexual offenders, normative versus concerning sexual behavior, grooming, sexual assault cycle and maintenance cycle, typologies of offenders and family typologies, assessment tools, and effective treatment for juvenile sexual offenders.

Shawne is a licensed professional counselor with expertise including individual, couples, groups, and family therapy to address a wide variety of issues including: childhood sexual abuse, anxiety, depression, ADHD, Post Traumatic Stress disorder, LGBTQ struggles, child behavioral problems, parenting issues, grief and loss, and other mental health concerns.  Shawne has a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from UW-Platteville and a Master of Science degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from UW-Stout.

An attendee must notify NTC of a cancellation prior to the beginning of the event in order to have fees removed or a refund issued. Attendees who do not attend without notifying Continuing Education will be responsible for payment of all course fees and will not be eligible for a refund.
