APPLICATION PROCESS   APPRENTICESHIP INFO
  • Fill out application at the Local 388 IBEW office in Stevens Point.
  • Send a copy of high school transcripts or GED and copy of your driver's license to the IBEW
    office in Stevens Point.
  • Applicants will be notified by the IBEW office of the next date when the electrical national aptitute test will be administered at the IBEW.
  • You will be notified of an interview with the Wisconsin River Valley
    Electrician Committee. Applicants are placed as openings arise.

Work Description:
Electricians plan, diagram, install and repair electrical fixtures, apparatus and control
equipment such as switches, relays, circuits
and break panels. They measure, cut, bend,
thread, assemble and install electrical conduits
and pull wire through conduit. Electricians test circuites to ensure compatibility and safety
of components.

Working Conditions:
The work is performed indoors and outdoors in
a variety of weather conditions. The work may require standing for long periods of time as well
as ladder and scaffold work.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Physically capable of performing the trade with or without reasonable accomodation.
  • Recommended high school courses:
    General Math, Algebra, Geometry, General Sciences, Shop Courses, Drafting, Print Reading and English.
  • Minimum math requirements include one full year of high school algebra, geometry, trignometry or calculus with a grade of C or better, or a post high school algebra course with a C or better.

Terms of Apprenticeship :

  • 5 year training program
  • 8,000 hours of on-the-job training.
  • 700-800 hours of paid and unpaid related classroom instruction
  • 180 hours of non-paid related instruction
    to include First Aid, Welding, OHSA, Motor Control, etc.
