Clinical Laboratory Technician, Associate Degree, Financial Aid Eligible

This program prepares learners to act as entry level Clinical Laboratory Technicians. The Clinical Laboratory Technician is a member of the health care team who provides clinical information for disease prevention, medical diagnosis, and treatment of the patient by processing specimens and performing laboratory tests.
Clinical Laboratory Technicians may also have responsibilities for information processing, training, and quality control monitoring. They perform tests manually, with automated equipment or both. Graduates are qualified to take the Board of Registry examination from the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, as well as the credentialing examination of the National Certification Agency for Laboratory Personnel. The majority of Clinical Laboratory Technicians work in hospital or clinical labs. Some Clinical Laboratory Technicians may choose to work for veterinary laboratories, industrial labs, insurance companies, research facilities, environmental labs or public health. Forensic Laboratory Technician, Physician Office Laboratory Technician, Pathology Research
Assistant, Quality Control Technician, Phlebotomist.

Our program has gained NAACLS “Serious Applicant Status” and as a result, our projected accreditation award date is April 30, 2008. The designation of “Serious Applicant Status” allows graduates of our CLT program to participate in certification exams requiring NAACLS accreditation. Community-Based Residential Facility, Technical Diploma, Not Eligible for Financial Aid

This program covers aspects of community-based residential facility (CBRF) caregiver training. Performance-based content includes the areas of the resident's rights, challenging behaviors, client-specific training, needs assessment, individualized service plans, standard precautions, dietary needs and menu planning, first aid, and medication management and administration. All units include videos, workbooks, and competency testing. All training and testing is done on-site at the CBRF. These courses meet Department of Health and Family Services (DHFS) regulations mandated training for CBRF caregivers (defined in HS83 regulations). All training is provided via contract with the CBRF. Courses are not offered to individual students. Potential Occupations include: Caregiver.

Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Associate Degree, Financial Aid Eligible

Diagnostic Medical Ultrasound uses high frequency sound waves to produce images of organs, masses, fluid collections, and vascular structures within the human body. Sonography is user-dependent and requires competent and highly skilled professionals to be a part of the integral health care system. Sonographers have extensive, direct patient contact, providing care to a variety of people from healthy to critically ill. Electroneurodiagnostic Technician (ENDT), Associate Degree, Shared with Western Technical College, 608.785.9571

Electroneurodiagnostic (END) technology is concerned with recording and studying the electrical activity of the brain. The END Technician works in close association with physicians trained in neurological diseases and disorders. Their primary responsibilities include taking END histories, operating and END equipment, performing pattern recognition of evoked recordings, conducting sleep disorder studies, managing laboratory and patient, and performance maintenanc of equipment.

The ENDT program is offered in collaboration with Western Technical College (WTC) in La Crosse.  You will be a student through WTC but taking your classes at the NTC Wausau campus.

Fire Protection Technician, Associate Degree, Shared with Fox Valley Technical College

A fire protection technician protects life and property through fire prevention efforts and, if necessary, by proper firefighting principles and techniques. Graduates are well trained in the progressive, proactive philosophy of the modern fire service which emphasizes fire prevention and public education, as well as the traditional firefighting and emergency medical service components.

This program will prepare students for a career in fire prevention and protection. Students will learn to apply proper principles in solving fire-related problems facing America in the 21st Century. Through realistic classroom simulation and "hands-on" experience, students will master the knowledge and techniques to save lives and property.

The Fire Protection Technician program is offered in collaboration with Fox Valley Technical College (FVTC) in Appleton, Wisconsin. You will be a student through FVTC but taking your classes at the NTC Wausau campus.

Health Unit Coordinator, Technical Diploma, Shared with Mid-State Technical College

The Health Unit Coordinator program prepares you for a non-clinical career in the ever-changing environment of healthcare. Learn to coordinate the activities of a hospital nursing unit and other healthcare settings. You will learn clerical and non-clinical functions and develop customer service skills. Oral and written communication skills, computer operation and medical order transcription will be reviewed. Support courses will also give you a background in basic medical terminology that will prepare you to understand and use the language of healthcare. As a successful graduate of this program, you are eligible to write the National Health Unity Coordinator Certification Exam. This certification is voluntary.

Medical Coding Specialist, Technical Diploma, Financial Aid Eligible

The Medical Coding Specialist Program prepares individuals for employment as entry-level coding specialists in health care facilities such as hospitals, clinics, and physician practice groups, surgery centers, long-term care facilities and home health care agencies. Coding specialists are also employed in consulting firms, coding and billing services, insurance companies, governmental agencies and computer software companies. The medical coding specialist reviews medical documentation provided by physicians

This 28-credit technical diploma prepares the student to function as a medical transcriptionist with training in medical terminology and word processing. Included is on-the-job experience, which is further explained under Additional Requirements. Good hearing, excellent keyboarding skills, and strong grammar/spelling skills are important to a successful transcription career. A prerequisite of 45 wpm keyboarding skill is needed. The certificate may be completed in one year, or a student may choose to go part-time and continue for more than one year.

Medication Assistant, 100-Hour Program

The Medication Assistant program prepares experienced nursing assistants, current on the Federal Nursing Assistant Directory, to administer medications to residents of a skilled-care nursing facility. The scope of the course covers the role of the medication assistant, legalities of medication administration, control and storage of drugs, techniques of administering drugs, and record keeping. The combination of lecture/discussion classes, practice labs, and clinical experience also covers drugs actions, and impact of body systems, utilization of drug reference materials, and recognition of drug side effects. Completion qualifies the graduate for inclusion in the State of Wisconsin Medical Assistant Registry. This training opportunity is available via contract only between NTC and the health care facility for the training of their employees, and is unavailable for individual student registrations.

The radiography program prepares men and women for a career in diagnostic radiology (x-ray imaging). Student radiographers will learn to perform basic routine radiographic examinations, as well as the more complex procedures involving the heart, brain, and spinal cord.
