Have you ever started out in one direction just to be pulled in another? Brad Ellis has. After earning a bachelor’s degree in hotel and restaurant management sixteen years ago and working at a Christian camp near White Lake ever since, opportunities in the medical field kept arising.

When a local emergency response team needed more volunteers, he became a certified emergency medical technician and joined the squad. To help patients in need of intravenous fluids, he became the first on the squad to be certified as an IV technician. Brad felt that he had found his true calling and began working towards a nursing degree through NTC’s Wausau campus.

To achieve that goal Brad made the 2-1/2 hour round trip to the campus two to three times a week. The cost of gas added up quickly. To relieve the financial stress, he applied for and received two scholarships through the NTC Foundation. “The scholarships helped tremendously,” Brad commented. “Because of them, I was able to complete the nursing program’s prerequisites, which include earning my diploma as a certified nursing assistant (CNA) and degree as a licensed practical nurse.”
