NTC High School Academies


What is a high school academy?
The academies are projects designed to expand students’ awareness of and interest in various careers.  A variety of activities are offered to help students learn about occupations and the entrance requirements to postsecondary programs in those areas.

Who is eligible to participate?
Students must be in 11th or 12th grade and also qualify under one of the following guidelines:

  • Economically disadvantaged
  • Educationally disadvantaged
  • Single parent/ pregnant
  • LEP - Limited English Proficient
  • Minority
  • Non-traditional training

    What academies are available?

    Health – Wausau Campus – Fall/Spring 2008
    Introduces students to healthcare occupations
       
      Coursework
      Exploring Health Careers (1 elective credit)
      Premedical Terminology (1 elective credit at associate degree level)
       
    Agriculture/Biotechnology –Antigo & Medford Campus – Fall 2007 & Spring 2008
    Students will be expected to take both Fall & Spring Coursework to earn 2 credits and complete the academy.
       
      Fall 2007/Antigo: Agriculture - Saturdays (October 27, November 3 & 10 ), 8 a.m. - 2 p.m.
      Fall 2007/Medford: Agriculture - Saturdays (December 1, 8 & 15), 8 a.m. - 2 p.m.
      Spring 2008/Antigo & Medford: Biotechnology - Dates to be announced
     
    Business – Wausau Campus – Spring 2008
       
       
      Digital Forensics
    Students will learn how to examine digital evidence to safeguard a business.
       
      Coursework
      Introduction to Business Professions - 1 elective credit at associate degree level

    Manufacturing
       
     

    Mechanical Design (CAD), Machine Tool, and Welding – Antigo (Spring 2008)
    Students will design, cut, and assemble a product.

       
      Electromechanical – Wittenberg (Spring 2008)
    Students learn about electronics through hands-on programming and building of the NXT generation robot.
     
    Coursework
      Introduction to Manufacturing Professions (1 elective credit at associate degree level)
     
    Graphic Communications - 1 Credit Elective (Associate Degree Level):
       
      Spring 2008/Wausau: Introduction to Graphic Communciations
       
    Graphic Communications - 1 Credit Elective (Associate Degree Level):
       
      This is the first course of our two-year technical diploma
      Spring 2008/Antigo:Introduction to Auto Collision Repair & Refinish
      Tentatively scheduled: Mondays from 4:30 - 8:30 p.m., February 11 - 14
