For more than 98 years, Northcentral Technical College has been a vital educational component for the citizens of North Central Wisconsin. In 1982, NTC branched out opening a campus in Medford. The new campus offered program options to the residents of Medford and the surrounding communities, and has been effectively connecting our learners with the business community ever since.

Guiding Success
As the economy rebounds, NTC’s Medford Campus is a fundamental resource for the citizens of Taylor County.
NTC has implemented a number of strategies to deliver dislocated worker outreach and support, while expanding enrollment opportunities. Outreach efforts include rapid response meetings in collaboration with local Department of Workforce Development staff, at which College staff provide an overview of NTC programs and services, and expanded sections of the Career Decisions course.
NTC’s Career Decisions course is a great starting point for anyone affected by the changing economy. This course will help individuals learn more about themselves, different careers, and most importantly, moves them in a direction that will start them on their new path. The personal information gathered, along with up-to-date workforce data, will help anyone find their perfect match and determine the steps needed to take to reach their new goal. The Career Decisions course is designed for anyone looking to focus on a specific career match.
Student Profile
Summer Mueller, 24, is enrolled in the Nursing Associate Degree program and is currently in her fourth semester at the Medford Campus. Summer grew up in Medford, and when it came time to plan for her future, she chose NTC because of the convenient location, financial aid options and the flexible class schedules.
“I like how I don’t have to travel far to attend classes, and if you don’t have a schedule that allows you to attend class in person, you can usually find the course online or through Learn Your Way (an option that allows students to choose how to attend each class session of a course – options include online, in-person or through Web conferencing),” said Mueller. “A great thing…if classes fill up, they usually open more sections.”
Understanding the financial impact that returning to school would be, Summer applied for financial aid, and now works at the NTC Medford Campus through the Work Study Program. Work Study allows eligible students to find part-time work, usually on campus, that allows them to earn money to help pay educational expenses.
“Without the financial aid, I wouldn’t be going to school, and I would rather do the work study than take out loans. I love working in the office, it’s really fun. I have been working there for three years, and it’s great,” said Mueller.
Summer is the President of the Student Governing Board on the Medford Campus. “Because we’re a smaller campus people may not think there are a lot of opportunities to get involved, but we plan a number of activities throughout the year. This year we raised money for the Medford hockey team so they could purchase equipment for their players. We also held an Easter egg hunt, had a stocking search and a poem competition.”
Summer’s favorite part about attending NTC is that, “the teachers are very involved, they care about your progress…how you’re doing. If you’re struggling, they are always there to help you out.”
In the future, Summer plans to utilize the transfer options available through NTC to go on to earn a bachelors degree and later a masters degree in Nursing. “One of the nice things about NTC is that our credits transfer to other schools, and other schools offer classes on NTC campuses so depending on the path I choose, I may be able to attend classes through a four-year college or university in Medford.”
Overall, Mueller said, “I would rate my experience at NTC as a 10. It’s really been a great experience”
