Over the past year, NTC has closely examined our Health Program Petition process. Our goal is to admit the most academically prepared applicants into our health programs each year. To help ensure the success of our students, we are instituting a competitive petition process for Dental Hygiene, Nursing, Radiography, and Surgical Technician. Petition is no longer required for Medical Lab Technician, Dental Assistant, or Medical Assistant.
As in the past, students will complete a petition packet and submit all supporting documents to the NTC Admissions office during the petition window. This year’s petition window will be one week: February 6-10, 2012.
Be advised you must be accepted as pre-program in order to petition. For more information review the Admission Checklist for your program of interest. To access the admission checklist select "Programs and Courses." Select your desired program and then click "Admission Guidelines."
Students who have met all petition requirements and have submitted a complete petition packet will be invited to take the Health Education Systems, Inc. (HESI) A2 Exam on Saturday, March 10, 2012. All students wanting to earn a place in core Dental Hygiene, Nursing, Radiography or Surgical Technician program courses must plan to take this exam on this date. If you meet all requirements and intend to petition, clear your calendar for this date now. There is a fee of $36 for the HESI test. You will be responsible for purchasing a test code through the NTC Bookstore prior to the test date. A confirmation letter with your testing time and instructions for purchasing your testing code to take the exam will be mailed after petitions are reviewed.
Students who receive the highest scores on the HESI exam will be accepted to start in program courses in August 2012.
Why was this exam chosen and what is on the exam?
The exam will show whether or not a student is academically prepared for the rigor and content of NTC Health programs. This exam will cover the following topics: Math, Chemistry, Anatomy & Physiology, and Reading. What if I don’t earn one of spots in the program?
We will accept some students to be “On Deck.” These students should be prepared to start in the event that an unforeseen circumstance prevents another student from starting. All On-Deck students will be guaranteed a spot in the next year’s start without having to re-petition.If you do not earn a place during this petition, you will need to re-petition during the next window. Every semester the updated petition window dates, packet, and HESI test date will be posted on the NTC website. You will have the option to re-test HESI, if desired. Free remediation for the exam will be available online - not through NTC’s Learning Center - to help you prepare for the next petition window.
How can I prepare for the HESI A2?
You can review materials from your related courses at NTC. An optional study guide is available for purchase ($39.95) in the NTC Bookstore. Study at least the following subjects in the guide: Math, Chemistry, Anatomy & Physiology, and Reading.
