Continuous Learning
When Flambeau River Papers LLC saw a need to prepare its workforce for the future, they turned to NTC. With the help of a Workforce Advancement Training Grant from the State, Flambeau River Papers worked with NTC to provide instruction to increase boiler operator proficiencies, while providing employees with new knowledge and technical skills to improve processes and products.
“With the partnership between Flambeau River Papers and NTC, our employees and company can help maintain the economy of the local community,” said Jeremy Van Camp, Human Resources Manager, Flambeau River Papers.
The outstanding level of service and training was made possible through NTC’s new Workforce Learning Solutions (WLS) Division, a team dedicated to providing workforce training solutions for a globally competitive business environment to increase the performance of organizations and individuals. With the help of WLS, local companies and incumbent workers can update and maintain their skills through professional continuing education, customized contracted training and technical assistance opportunities.
Professional development and training opportunities are featured in the new WLS Course Schedule, ensuring businesses and employees have every opportunity to stay competitive through continuous learning.
Innovation
Over the past year, NTC has completed an expansion and renovation project at the Phillips Campus. Through a generous donation of land and a warehouse building, and through the support of leaders at Phillips Plastics, NTC was able to complete the project.
The updated facility is now approximately 17,500 square feet, increasing the campus size by an estimated 12,500 square feet. The expansion added additional classrooms, a flex lab for manufacturing, a student lounge and a new student services center. Without their generous donation and our partnership with Phillips Plastics, the remodel would not have been possible.
Phillips Plastics recognizes and promotes technical education as a solution to the shortage of skilled workers in manufacturing. Through their support of education in manufacturing, they routinely and actively encourage hiring of NTC graduates, and work with our faculty and staff to ensure cutting-edge technology and techniques are recognized and integrated at the Phillips Campus.
The end result of these collaborative programs is that highly motivated and skilled people find their way into the local manufacturing workforce, enhancing the economic vitality of the local community. As a valued and inspiring partner of NTC, Phillips Plastics is a champion of technical education and the people they serve and represent.
