Sustainable Architecture Associate Degree

Description

This program will concentrate on training in whole building systems and building performance measurement. Program focus will provide a foundation in the details of building systems such as: electrical and lighting, heating, ventilation and air conditioning and thermal envelope design. Additional training in the practices and procedures of remodeling/retrofitting existing structures in regard to an energy efficient systems approach will be explored throughout the program. Students will receive specialized training in energy auditing, efficiency rating and performance testing of both new and existing structures as well as additional knowledge in Building Information Modeling (BIM) and related software, construction practices, code adherence, blueprint reading and insulating techniques. Students will also gain skills in the estimation and calculation of energy usage/savings with the ability to analyze results and recommend alternative energy efficient resources.
Graduates will be able to

  • Demonstrate an understanding of energy conscious building practices
  • Utilize industry standard Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Building Information Modeling (BIM) software to design and analyze building designs
  • Demonstrate an understanding of mechanical systems used in energy efficient building design
  • Analyze and provide recommendations for energy efficiency in new and existing facilities
  • Apply common management techniques and contract documents used in the building industry
