Medication Assistant Technical Diploma

Description

The Medication Assistant Technical Diploma prepares experienced nursing assistants, current on the State of Wisconsin and Federal Nursing Assistant Directory, to administer medications to residents of a skilled-care nursing facility. Nurse aids taking this course must be referred by their employer and have at least 2,000 hours experience working as a CNA. The scope of this course covers the roles of the Medication Assistant, legalities of medication administration, control and storage of drugs, techniques of administering drugs and record keeping. The combination of lecture/discussion classes, practice labs and clinical experience also covers drugs actions and impact of body systems, utilization of drug reference materials and recognition of drug side effects. Completion qualifies the graduate for inclusion in the State of Wisconsin Medication Aide Registry.
