Do the classes meet every weekend?

Class schedules differ depending on the class and mode of delivery. Types of classes include an accelerated format (meaning a longer class time over a shorter period of time), in-person, hybrid (combination of online and in-person delivery) and online. In general, classes will not meet every weekend, though there may be some exceptions.
 

When will these classes be offered?

Classes are offered on Friday evenings, Saturday mornings and Saturday afternoons, leaving Sunday open for research, computer lab assignments and independent projects. Many of the classes are also offered fully online.

 

How much will it cost?

Tuition is the same for weekend college courses as a weekday course. The 2010-2011 tuition rate is $106.00 per credit for Wisconsin Residents.

 

How can I get help if I need it?

Counselors are available to help with scheduling, career advising and any other problems.
 

Are there special requirements for Weekend College?

There are no special requirements. Weekend College is designed for those who require an alternative option to weekday classes. We encourage those attending Weekend College to come committed to learning and the desire to improve their chances of success.
 

How do you register for Weekend College?

Registration for Weekend College class is the same as other NTC classes. Get Started!
 

How do I interact with my instructor and classmates?

If a Weekend College course requires you to attend class on campus, you will interact with your instructor and other students just as you would in a traditional class. 
 
Interactive television students communicate with the instructor using two-way video and audio conferencing.
 
Online students are able to interact with their instructor and classmates in several ways:
  • By email: Students and instructors exchange email addresses at the beginning of each course, which enables ongoing discussion outside of the online classroom.
  • By phone: You are free to exchange phone numbers with classmates.
  • Using online discussion threads: Track topical discussions or respond to questions posed by your instructor.
 

How do I get my grade when I complete an online course?

Login to my>NTC and click on "VIEW MY GRADES." Click on the current term to view your grades. As soon as your grades are posted by your faculty, you will be able to check your grades.
 

What is an online course?

Online courses offer flexible, self-paced study, available seven days a week, 24-hours a day. No travel is required. You may use your home computer or one at an NTC campus. Each of the six NTC campuses have computer labs that students may use to access their online courses, if necessary.
 
All online students must have an email address (NTC provides all students will an email address), and basic computer skills such as using a mouse, an Internet browser and have a fundamental understanding of how to use a computer.
 
NTC has two formats for online courses:
  • Blackboard: NTC's standard for online course delivery. Students enrolled in a Blackboard course will be required to complete an online orientation.
  • Computer Based Tutorials (CBTs):Online e-learning courses.
 

Do online courses have tests?

Some online courses have tests. Most exams are taken online; but your course syllabus will inform you if you need to take the exam on campus. Most online courses evaluate you on the quality of your assignments, projects and quizzes. The quizzes are graded automatically. The evaluation process of the course will be noted in the course syllabus.
 

How do I “attend” an online course?

You will receive a message on or before the first day of class describing how to access your course. Attendance in an online course is not based on “seat time” as it is in regular classroom-based courses. You will be involved in a variety of learning activities both on- and off-line.
 

How long do online courses last?

Online courses are offered on a semester basis typically beginning in August or January. Online courses vary in length, some are over a 16-week semester span, others are enhanced and run over a shorter period.
 

Where can I go to get technical support for online classes?

The Help Desk provides support services to students who are enrolled at NTC. Our focus is to ensure that all online students get the help needed to complete their Computer Based Tutorials or courses through Blackboard.
 

Is an online class right for you?

Online learning requires strong independent study skills so we encourage students to take our online assessment to determine whether online learning is the right choice.
 

How will I get my textbooks and other resources?

Your instructor will contact you via email or orientation session to let you know what textbooks and other resources are needed for your class. You can find an approximate cost of your textbooks visiting the NTC Bookstore online or by calling 715.809.1154. You’ll need your course number when calling or logging on.
 
The Bookstore on the Wausau Campus is open on Saturdays from 7:45 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Limited Bookstore services available at NTC’s Regional Campuses.
