COURSE DESCRIPTIONS IN ALPHABETIC ORDER

20/20/20 (Cardio/Strength/Abs) Linda Rachu’s emphasis in this class is on cross training -20 minutes cardio + 20 minutes total body strength/toning + 20 minutes of awesome abs work.  Just a bit longer than 15/15/15.   SUPPLIES REQUIRED: Floor Mat, Hand Weights.

Advanced Landscape Designs: Garden Styles  Teri Gear will explore the different garden styles- Japanese, Cottage, Prairie-style, tropical, formal, and small space gardens. Discuss design techniques to achieve these styles in your own yard and plants appropriate for each Planning and Installing Hardscapes Paths, patios, seat walls, ponds, arbors and other permanent structures are an integral part of the landscape. Teri Gear will show how to properly place a variety of different hardscapes into the landscape and the proper installation techniques. Knowledge of basic landscape design is helpful.

Basic Computer Class (self paced) This FREE self-paced course will provide the learner with basic computer knowledge including understanding of terminology, key computer functions and basic skills associated with computer use. Classroom teaching is supported by hands-on experience with follow-up activities such as word processing. Participant will work one on one with the instructor.  Open period is from 1/18 - 5/12.

Beginning Acrylic Landscape Painting  Mike Derkez will demonstrate the flexibility of acrylics as both an opaque and a transparent medium. He will cover a variety of tools, simple color mixing tips, and demonstrate basic landscape images. Learn about basic color theory, blending, shading and creating texture.  SUPPLIES REQUIRED: 11 X 14 Canvas boards (3 pack) -  Walmart craft department appx. $5; 2 - 1” soft bristle brush for background painting - Walmart appx. $3.00; ice cream pail lid; paper towels; apron/smock; landscape calendar picture; container for water (will get stained);  Loew Kornell 10 pack white nylon brushes $5 - Walmart appx. $5.; Paint will be supplied

Digital Photo Organization -Memory Manager    Digital Photo/Story Books  Learn how to organize, categorize and personalize digital images, edit photos, burn a CD with the click of a button, make a slide show and edit photos. Cindy Semenchuk will demonstrate the new user friendly program  Memory Manager (software for purchase) in addition to a free software program that makes high quality, hard and soft cover stitch bound digital albums. Simply drag and drop photos into a selection of pre-designed pages, add a story and share online. 

Drawing Fundamentals  Learn the basics or improve/hone skills…this drawing class if for all levels. Sara Merkel-Jacobs will address your individual needs, interest and skill level. Several media will also be demonstrated and discussed; pencil, charcoal, conte pen, graphite powder and more! Supply list sent at registration. 

GED Classes (self paced)  Fulfill a goal! Complete your GED with these self paced classes.  Participant will work one on one with the instructor.  Open period is from 1/18 - 5/12.  The class and materials are FREE!  Test fee: $15 per test with a total of 5 tests. $15 credential fee upon completion

Gentle Yoga  “It is a great class at a great cost. I leave the class feeling like I have had a total body massage. I am relaxed and refreshed! What  more can I ask for?” M.L.- Yoga Student  Yoga balances the body through movement, postures, breathing and meditation. White Lotus Yoga instructor, Cathy Taylor, will teach participants how to improve flexibility, balance and coordination through a myriad of Gentle Yoga poses and stretches.  The class will focus on good posture, breathing techniques and deep stretching to improve strength and body awareness. Greenscaping   Achieve a beautiful landscape with lower maintenance. Learn about a few sustainable practices to save you time, energy and money - low maintenance lawn care, rain gardens and rain barrels, plant selection and placement, composting and square foot vegetable gardening will be some of the items discussed.  Come join Teri Gear for this ‘green’ class!
Home Brewing 101 Travis Skroch will begin this class with a discussion of the general homebrew process and terminology. Immediately following will be a demonstration of the three stages involved in making beer from malt extracts as well as a discussion of how to make beer from grain. Travis will also put an emphasis on the essential equipment necessary for home brewing as well as sanitization methods.  Beer styles and brewing techniques for those styles will also be discussed.   **Must be 21+ years of age**   Class Limit = 10

Home Brewing 201  Brewed a few batches and ready to go to the "next level"?  Travis Skroch will show how to build a mash tun, and discuss malt, hops, water, and yeast.  A hands-on all grain brewing session will be offered to class members after course completion. 

Joy of Journaling  Many people look at journaling as a self-help project, one more thing on their "to do" list.  This class takes a less structured approach exploring many journaling possibilities in a spirit of play.  Kris Rued Clark will present a variety of journaling styles including a gratitude journal, a tidbit journal that combines collage with hand-written bits and collected quotes, a Daily Dialog or Morning Pages journal, and how to create a book of prayers or affirmations.  Explore each technique and choose which one will personally work best. SUPPLIES REQUIRED:  pens, tape or glue, scissors, art supplies, a blank journal, or just come prepared to dabble and sample J

Leaf Casting  Here’s a great use for those big rhubarb, hosta, squash or pumpkin leaves!  Learn how to cast them into a candy dish, bird feeder, birdbath or other garden/home décor. June Krueger will help students design, construct and paint these creations. SUPPLIES REQUIRED: 1 bag ‘play’ sand - or enough to support the leaf -remember the larger the leaf the more sand needed - available at  Menards or Fleet Farm for appx. $3; 1 medium leaf (14” or less) of your choice (i.e.: hosta, rhubarb, squash, pumpkin, burdock)  Class Limit = 10
 
Kickboxing Cardio   This Kickboxing/Cardio mix class is a fast paced, non contact, workout set to Latino music (Reggaeton/Hip-Hop, Regional Mexican, and Tropical). It incorporates continuous body movement and kickboxing techniques to increase heart rate and burn calories while improving agility, strength, balance, endurance, and coordination.  Join Stacy Martin for this invigorating, whole body workout.  Fitness Level:  Advanced Beginner  SUPPLIES REQUIRED:   Comfy Clothes; Athletic Shoes; Water

Make a Garden/Patio Pagoda Light  Have fun creating a garden pagoda light. Mary Oertel will show how to use a light cement mixture (hypertufa) that will dry white, and there’s no need to paint.  Students should have a style in mind of a pagoda light they want to make (bring a picture along).  SUPPLIES REQUIRED:   1 child’s sand pail (or something similar with a cone shape); 1 small sturdy square box about 12-16” square; 1 Bag of play sand; 2 plastic garbage bags

Pond Management (for large ponds)  Tom Nikolai will discuss the practical aspects of building and managing a pond.  The discussion will include bank and shore structure, weed/algae control, fish habitat/food sources and aeration systems. SUPPLIES REQUIRED: insect repellent; hiking or rubber boots.  NOTE:  No smoking.   Class limit = 9    RAIN DATE: 5/20

Semi-Extreme Room Makeover   Are there some trouble spots in your home? A room you just can’t get right no matter how hard you try? Afraid to paint your room anything other than white?  Fear not!  Bring in photos, digital photos, or a video on your laptop of one room.  We will analyze the room as a class project, and  Interior Designer  Bev Rehfeldt will give enough guidance and instruction so you can do the room makeover yourself.  SUPPLIES REQUIRED: Photos or a video on laptop of a problem room
The Economy Today   A class for everyone who cares about their future and our economy! Discover how the state of the economy affects us today. Malcom Gold will share current facts and the impact of unemployment, inflation, foreign trade policies, output and future expectations and how you are part of the big picture.

Total Package  Are you interested in toning as well as getting your heart rate up with fun dance moves?  In this class, Lisa will focus on core (abdominal) strength using concepts of beginning Pilates as well as toning and lengthening the muscles of the arms, legs and buttocks to create that long lean look.  Beginning ballet and jazz steps will be incorporated for cardio and fun. SUPPLIES REQUIRED: Exercise Mat; Hand weights (your choice of weight); water.  NOTE: No class April 21
