COURSE DESCRIPTIONS IN ALPHABETIC ORDER

20/20/20 (Cardio/Strength/Abs) Linda Rachu’s and Renee Dillenbeck’s emphasis in this class is on cross training -20 minutes cardio + 20 minutes total body strength/toning + 20 minutes of awesome abs work.  SUPPLIES REQUIRED: SPENCER & STRATFORD Floor Mat, Hand Weights. Class limit =20   NOTE:  No class Nov 26 SPENCER.

A Christmas Carol   Enjoy a family favorite theatre production and watch Ebenezer Scrooge learn the true meaning of Christmas. Tour includes coach bus, backstage theatre tour, lunch, show, and on-your-own fast food stop. Don’t miss this adventure or you will be saying “Bah-Humbug!”.  Trip itinerary will be sent prior to departing.

A Time To Heal  Part of the Healthy Survivorship Series, this new holistic wellness program helps women regain their physical, emotional and spiritual health after breast cancer treatment. Funding provided by Susan G. Komen for the Cure Central Wisconsin Affiliate.  

Amish Insight II  Richard Lee Dawley  is back to share new information and updates on his travels, experiences and studies of the Amish culture. Over 100 people attended his last UWM/WC visit.  Don’t miss this opportunity to learn more about our Amish, Mennonite and Hutterite neighbors.   Help us build bridges to understanding. 

Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program  Have fun with Marcia Lindow while improving joint mobility, endurance, flexibility, posture, balance and muscle strength. Improves coordination and enhances the ability to do daily activities. Come join this non-clinical community program!

Basic Computer Class (self paced) This course will provide the learner with basic computer knowledge including understanding of terminology at a beginning level, key computer functions and basic skills associated with computer use. Classroom teaching is supported by hands-on experience with follow-up activities such as word processing. This is a self paced class.  Participant will work one on one with the instructor, and come in when it's convenient on Mondays & Wednesdays from 3:30-7:30pm.  The class and materials are FREE!

Cardio Toning Marcia Lindow leads this dynamic-duo class which combines an aerobic/cardio routine with a high-rep free-weights workout for the perfect mix of fat-burning and body toning exercises.  Improve strength, muscle tone and endurance while reducing body fat and stress levels. Fitness levels-all.  SUPPLIES REQUIRED: Hand weights; exercise mat; towel; water. Class limit = 20   

Combat Hapkido is a modern, dynamic self-defense system that offers all the benefits of a classical martial art, but without the rituals, rigidity or forms. Master Travis L Haupt will focus on kicks, strikes, joint locks, pressure points, and more.  A self-defense system that‘s enjoyable to learn. Suitable for all ages because physical strength and athletic abilities are not essential.

Comic & Fantasy Art for the Beginner  This class with Steve Wenta is for anyone who wants to learn about the greats in the field and draw like them. SUPPLIES REQUIRED: Favorite comics, magazines or a picture. Material list sent upon registration.

Digital Photo Organization -Memory Manager    Digital Photo/Story Books  Learn how to organize, categorize and personalize digital images, burn a CD with the click of a button, make a slide show and edit photos. Cindy Semenchuk will demonstrate the new user friendly program  Memory Manager ($39.95).  She will also demonstrate a free software program that makes high quality, hard and soft cover stitch bound digital albums.   Simply drag and drop photos into a large selection of pre-designed pages and add a story.  The program also offers simple editing features. Finished digital books can be shared online with family and friends.  

Fencing  Discover the art of fencing with Mathew Carter . Gain confidence, keep fit and have fun learning a new sport. Open to beginners and ongoing students.  SUPPLIES REQUIRED: Bring own equipment or order a starter set at the introductory class ($70 - $100).

Gentle Yoga  “It is a great class at a great cost. I leave the class feeling like I have had a total body massage. I am relaxed and refreshed! What  more can I ask for?M.L.- Yoga Student  Yoga balances the body through movement, postures, breathing and meditation. White Lotus Yoga instructor, Cathy Taylor, will teach participants how to improve flexibility, balance and coordination through a myriad of Gentle Yoga poses and stretches.  The class will focus on good posture, breathing techniques and deep stretching to improve strength and body awareness. Got Venison?  Now What?  Got the big buck, now what? Learn how to safely prepare and store venison. Get the inside scoop on jerky and canned venison. Connie Eisch will share recipes, hints and best practices. (Bring a pressure cooker to class and have it safety tested.)
Group Strength Training  In addition to learning how to use the fitness equipment properly, this class with Healthy Lifestyles Coach Renee Dillenbeck should help in weight loss, toning, better balance/coordination, and increased strength.  NOTE: Must be a current member of the Stratford Fitness Center.  SUPPLIES REQUIRED: Comfortable workout clothes
Home Brewing 101 Travis Skroch will begin this class with a discussion of the general homebrew process and terminology. Immediately following will be a demonstration of the three stages involved in making beer from malt extracts as well as a discussion of how to make beer from grain. Travis will also put an emphasis on the essential equipment necessary for home brewing as well as sanitization methods.  Beer styles and brewing techniques for those styles will also be discussed.   Those who attend will be able to make a delicious beer that their friends will surely envy.  If you can boil water, you CAN make beer!  **Must be 21+ years of age**   Class Limit = 10

Home Brewing 201    Brewed a few batches and ready to go to the "next level"?  Ready to go "all grain"?   Travis Skroch will show how to build a mash tun, and discuss malt, hops, water, and yeast.  A hands on all grain brewing session will also be offered to class members after
course completion.  (This is a discussion only course)

Joy of Journaling  Many people look at journaling as a self-help project, one more thing on their "to do" list.  This class takes a less structured approach exploring many journaling possibilities in a spirit of play.  Kris Rued Clark will present a variety of journaling styles including a gratitude journal, a tidbit journal that combines collage with hand-written bits and collected quotes, a Daily Dialog or Morning Pages journal, and how to create a book of prayers or affirmations.  Explore each technique and choose which one will personally work best. SUPPLIES REQUIRED:  pens, tape or glue, scissors, art supplies, a blank journal, or just come prepared to dabble and sample J

Leaf Casting  Here’s a great use for those big rhubarb, hosta, squash or pumpkin leaves!  Learn how to cast them into a candy dish, bird feeder, birdbath or other garden/home décor. June Krueger will help students design, construct and paint these creations. SUPPLIES REQUIRED: 1 bag ‘play’ sand - or enough to support the leaf -remember the larger the leaf more sand needed - available at  Menards or Fleet Farm for appx. $3; 1 medium/large leaf of your choice (i.e.: hosta, rhubarb, squash, pumpkin, burdock)  Class Limit = 10

Take Stock in the Market  Randy Gershman from Edward Jones Investments will cover the basic structure of the stock market and the 3 key principles of stock investing.  He will also discuss how to track investments.

Total Body Toning  Join Renee Dillenebeck to tone the entire body through various exercises chosen to target and strengthen major muscle groups using free weights and your own body-weight.  An ideal class for all fitness levels.  Fitness Level:  Beginning - Intermediate  SUPPLIES REQUIRED: Floor Mat; Hand weights (your choice of weight).
