The financial aid programs at NTC help students continue their education by offering grants, scholarships, loans, and work-study program to students who qualify for assistance. When you apply for aid, your own savings and earnings plus your family's financial resources will be used to determine your financial need. Your eligibility for financial aid is based in part on the income you reported on last year's federal tax return.

Other Information
Note: Please notify the Financial Aid Office, if you are receiving assistance, which is not listed on your award letter. NTC is required to consider educational benefits from scholarships and other agencies to avoid over-awards. Inform the Financial Aid Office if you are receiving a scholarship or assistance from the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, JOBS, Veterans Benefits, Workers Compensation, or any other assistance for your educational expenses.
Tax Requirements
The Tax Reform Act of 1986 included an amendment to Section 117 of the IRC which subjects scholarships and fellowships to taxation. The law notes that the only amount that can be excluded from gross income is the amount of scholarship or fellowship grant received by the student for tuition and fees, books, supplies, and equipment (course-related expenses). Other expenses not actually required for enrollment at the school or in a course, such as room and board or non-required equipment and supplies, may not be excluded.
We recommend that each student receiving a grant or scholarship, from any source, save and retain all registration forms, bookstore and parts store receipts, and any receipt which documents supplies, equipment, etc., to support expenses excludable from gross income.
