Work Study

What is Federal Work Study?

This is a federal program aimed at providing part-time jobs on campus for financially eligible students. Eligibility is determined by completing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).  The program is set up on a "work and earn" basis.  The Financial Aid Office will award you a budgeted dollar amount for the school year depending upon your level of financial need as determined by your financial aid application (FAFSA).  Please note that there is limited funding available under this program each school year.

How much will I make?

You will earn between $7.77 and $8.96 per hour depending upon the type of work you do and the skills required.

How will I be paid?

You will be paid an hourly wage.  Hours worked will be recorded by you, the student, on time sheets distributed by the Financial Aid Office.  Federal Work-Study earnings are disbursed bi-weekly and are processed for the actual hours worked.  You must have either a savings or checking account where your earnings may be electronically deposited.

Are Federal Work-Study jobs on campus or off campus?

The majority of jobs are on campus.  Jobs through community service agencies are also available for the Federal Work-Study program.  Jobs typically found are in the library, department offices, maintenance and as assistants to instructors. See the Financial Aid Office for a job listing and application procedures.

Can I work as many hours as I want?

No. The amount you earn can’t exceed your total Federal Work-Study award. When assigning work hours, your employer will consider your class schedule and your academic progress.  Work schedules are generally quite flexible to accommodate your classes and study time.

If you are interested in Federal Work-Study but weren't awarded it, see the Financial Aid Office about your eligibility.
