Accelerated (ACC)
Accelerated courses are ideal for busy adults who are self-disciplined and can take a significant amount of responsibility for their own learning. These courses offer students a unique combination of independent study and group interaction. Class time is often spent in group activities and discussion. Attendance at all sessions is crucial, as courses have fewer meetings. Most courses require counselor and/or instructor approval. The Supervisory Management program offers all of its courses in this format. Courses offered in the accelerated mode are designated in the course listing with ACC.
Classroom Learning
Traditional classroom learning offers students the opportunity to combine lecture with one-to-one faculty interaction.
Correspondence (Print Based/Self-Paced Learning) (CORR)
Correspondence courses are self-paced independent study courses that allow students to work at their own pace with instructor guidance; no formal classroom attendance is required. An orientation session (in-person, phone or ITV) is scheduled with the instructor of the correspondence/self-paced courses. Instructional materials are either e-mailed or mailed to the student. Course assignments and exams are generally handled through the mail or e-mail based on course syllabus directions. Additional instructional resources and kits are available for checkout through the College’s Library. Courses offered in the Correspondence mode are designated in the course listing with CORR. The Applied Engineering Technician program is offered in this mode.
Interactive Television (ITV)
Many of NTC’s classes are delivered to its regional campuses and other
educational institutions using interactive television technology. Students at
all ITV sites can participate and interact with each other via NTC’s two-way
video and audio conferencing IP (Internet Protocol) network. When questions
arise, the student and instructor are able to simultaneously communicate by
microphone just like a regular classroom. The system offers students at NTC’s
regional campuses and other educational sites to take classes and work toward
credits and degrees. Courses offered via ITV are designated in the course listing
with ITV. Several NTC programs use ITV to delivery a major portion of their
programs including Accounting, Health Care Business Services, Nursing, Administrative
Assistant, Medical Coding, Early Childhood Education, Supervisory Management,
Business-to-Business Marketing, and Criminal Justice. Information

Internet-Computer Conferencing (NM)
NTC also uses IP (internet protocol) computer conferencing tools (NetMeeting & Breeze Live) and IP telephone conferencing systems to deliver its Computer Information System programs (Networking and Programming) to students at the Regional Campuses. It is an Internet tool that allows students at any regional campus to view the computer screen of their instructor. Students hear the instructor and interact with other students using a telephone conferencing system. Orientation sessions on how to use this computer conferencing system is provided for first time users.
Online/Internet (I)
Students can now access several courses at home, work, or school via the Internet.
NTC offers several instructor-led Internet courses. Most online courses are
offered 100% online in an asynchronous mode, anytime from anywhere with no on-campus
requirement. Some online courses may be hybrid and will require some on-campus
sessions. A hybrid online course will have a note on the course schedule informing
the student of the required on-campus sessions. Online/Internet courses require
students to have basic computer skills including using a mouse and Internet
browser, as well as have a fundamental understanding of how to use a computer.
It is highly recommended that students who enroll in Internet courses for the
first time take the Orientation to Online Learning. Courses offered online/Internet
are designated in the course listing with I. Several NTC programs use online/Internet
to delivery their courses including Computer Support Specialist, Supervisory
Management and General Studies. Information

Self-Paced Learning (SPL)
Courses that are self-paced allow students to start anytime during the first 10 weeks of a typical semester. Most course work will be completed in an open laboratory setting with students in other courses or at different levels within the course in which they have enrolled. Instructors develop an individualized plan with the student to complete the competencies of the course. Weekly schedules are arranged between the instructor and students to meet individual needs. Most self-paced courses require a student orientation. Students will be required to make arrangements with the instructor to complete the orientation and to schedule lab time to complete their coursework. Courses offered in the self-paced mode are designated in the course listing with SPL.
