This course provides the high intermediate ELL student with the skills to comprehend and respond critically to a range of texts such as textbooks, articles, and workplace documents. Additionally, students will increase the use of different types of reference materials, including an advanced ESL dictionary or online sources, for vocabulary development and expand the use of prefixes and suffixes. It also provides instruction in reading critically and recognizing formal and informal language. Students read textbooks, job applications, magazines, newspapers, short narratives, workplace signs and memos. Students adjust reading rate for level of difficulty of text. Prerequisite: Prior level or assessment
