Basic composition and structure of industrial materials (ferrous and nonferrous metals, ceramics, polymers, as well as powdered metals and composites) and their implications for machinability, machine tool application. Emphasis will be placed on the heat treating of common tool steels, the modification and prediction of metal behavior, and testing. Students may individualize course according to their interest. Need to meet entry-level assessment standards to enroll.
