Explores the science behind welding. Learners investigate welding techniques and applications as related to weld integrity. Compares the properties of various fillers and shielding mediums.

Pre/Corequisite: 10-442-159 GAS METAL ARC WELDING or 10-442-183 GAS METAL ARC WELDING 1: SPRAY TRANSFER and 10-442-184 GAS METAL ARC WELDING 2; SHORT CIRCUIT TRANSFER (HORIZONTAL) and 10-442-185 GAS METAL ARC WELDING 3; SHORT CIRCUIT TRANSFER (VERTICAL & OVERHEAD), or with Dean or Associate Dean approval.
