Program Description

The Auto Collision Basics Certificate prepares learners for entry into the Auto Collision industry. Instruction includes basic skills and knowledge led by experienced industry experts and taking place in industry body shops around the Wausau area. This program is designed for learners who are interested in gaining an introductory qualification in Auto Collision, for those who wish to start on a path of developing their existing skills, or for those who are interested in Auto Collision work for personal enjoyment. This certificate is supported in partnership with WATEA.

Outcomes

Graduates will be able to…

  • Assess and effectively utilize various body shop layouts and set-ups
  • Identify and safely use various body shop chemicals and substances
  • Understand the different possible career paths available for those in the auto collision industry
  • Apply effective professionalism and communication skills
  • Understand and apply basic collision analysis skills, including: pre-repair inspections, vehicle protection, vehicle inspection, damage report creation, estimate creation, and basic scanning tools
  • Understand and apply basic automotive disassembly activities, including: standard procedures, organization, parts identification, documentation, and practical disassembly experience
  • Identify, understand, and apply basic automotive body repairs, including: repair estimate understanding & application, introductory plastic welding, basic paint preparation, basic paint finishing & detailing, and common prep and repair chemicals
  • Identify and safely use various pieces of common body shop equipment
