It is often talked about that individuals with Alzheimer’s Disease experience tremendous loss as symptoms worsen.  Grieving these losses can be an important process to limit the emotional effects of the disease.  However, often overlooked are the losses experienced by the caregivers.  Losses such as the person they always knew, the loss of their own independence and control, the loss of the life they imagined having… Caregivers may push these feelings aside, feeling tremendous guilt and believing they do not have permission to grieve their own losses as they care for their loved one.  In this presentation, Dr. Weiland will turn the focus to the ones quietly suffering their own losses, the caregivers.  How do you grieve the loss of the living?
