Understanding Challenging Behaviors: The Importance of Teaching Self-Regulation through Effective Classroom Based Interventions - Presented by Dr. Eric Hartwig

One of the greatest professional challenges we have today is to provide a safe and welcoming learning environment for all children. Adults need to be curious rather than reactive while they help children back to calm. Why do children act the way they do? Why do they resist my efforts to help them? What do I need to know to help?  This workshop will provide hands on, real time answers to help you manage your world while you help children manage theirs as you shape their emotional and behavioral competence to independence.

HartwigEric P. Hartwig, Ph.D. received his doctorate in Educational Administration from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, a M.S. in School Psychology and a B.S. in Psychology from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. He is experienced and licensed as a Director of Pupil Services, District Administrator and a School Psychologist/Private Practice ®. After 44 years of service, he retired as an Administrator of Pupil Services for the Marathon County Children with Disabilities Education Board. Dr. Hartwig is an author, creator of online B.E.S.T. (Behavioral Emotional Social Traits) screening tool, and renowned speaker.

Caring For Our Children: Health and Wellness in Childcare Settings - Presented by Early Childhood Health Consultation

A common issue faced by early childhood educators is deciding if a mildly ill child should stay in care. How can we thinking on this broad concept and keep in mind various perspectives involved? This presentation will describe the current landscape of health and wellness in WI childcare settings and describe the resources available through the Early Childhood Health Consultation program.

The Early Childhood Health Consultation is a program that supports the early childhood educators of Wisconsin in addressing health and safety questions through a free, non-judgemental, supportive consultation process. It is in partnership with Wisconsin Department of Children & Families and UW-Madison School of Human Ecology, through funding from the Preschool Development Grant.

NavsariaDr. Dipesh Navsaria is a pediatrician working in the public interest. He developed the Early Childhood Health Consultation concept and provides overall leadership of the program. Dr. Navsaria brings a unique combination of interests and experience through his roles of physician, educator, public health professional, and occasional children’s librarian. He is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the School of Medicine and Public Health, and a Clinical Associate Professor of Human Development and Family Studies at the School of Human Ecology, both at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Dr. Navsaria aims to support the environment around children and families to ensure they can flourish and thrive.
