AOD Partnership Meeting | Northcentral Technical College

AOD Partnership Meeting

Tuesday, June 7 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Northcentral Technical College - Main building - Room E101
Topic: Medication Abuse Trends in Marathon County
Summary: Communities across Wisconsin are being negatively impacted by substance abuse. One of the rising concerns over the past decade has been the increase in individuals overdosing or seeking treatment as a result of medication abuse. Medication abuse can start with legitimate use, such as prescription pain killers for pain following injury/surgery or Adderall for ADHD, but these highly addictive drugs can serve as a bridge to illicit drug use (such as heroin or methamphetamines). Attend to hear more about the impact on the community, highlights of a 3 year community assessment on medication abuse, and steps you can take to help reduce its burden.
Presenters: Marathon County Health Department, Local Treatment Provider , Local Prescriber
Learning Objectives:
  • Brief overview of medication abuse and its link to illicit drug use
  • Medication abuse trends on a local, state and national level
  • List current initiatives and ways that communities can work together to address the problem
