Wisconsin School for Beginning Dairy and Livestock Farmers

Thursdays, November 2, 2017 - March 8, 2017 11:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. NTC Wausau Campus
This seminar is broadcast live from Madison and will familiarize you with the development and management of pasture-based dairy and livestock farm businesses. An NTC instructor will lead the seminar, provide networking with area farmers, resource personnel and conduct a discussion session each week.
The school will provide a wealth of valuable information for those interested in farming. Topics will include:
  • Principles of managed grazing
  • Milking center design
  • Dairy, beef, goat and sheep production
  • Herd health
  • Farm selection and design
  • Winter feeding and housing strategies
  • Farm enterprise development

During the course, students will develop their own business plan for a current or desired farm operation. The final class will consist of an opportunity to present the plan to a panel of successful farmers and agricultural lenders.

To attend the Wisconsin School for Beginning Dairy you need to have a strong desire to become a dairy or livestock farmer, have a serious interest in managed grazing and have some previous experience in dairy or livestock agriculture.
