The difference between having a dream and living the dream is the amount of effort you put into achieving it. Joshua Graham put plenty of effort into achieving his. The 29-year-old financial planner from Tigerton had a bachelor’s degree in economics, but for years had dreamed of becoming a certified public accountant.
So when the economy declined in 2008 and took some of his clients with it, he enrolled in NTC’s accounting program. “I chose NTC over other colleges because it can give me the hands-on education I needed to be successful in my career,” Joshua said. The scholarships he received through the NTC Foundation provided financial assistance for tuition, books, and other school-related expenses.
Joshua attended school part time via ITV classes at the Wittenberg campus. In addition to his classes Joshua took full advantage of extracurricular opportunities available to him through NTC. Those activities included being selected by his instructors as NTC’s district ambassador for the 2009-2010 school year; participating in the Business Professionals of America competition, where he won four medals; preparing tax returns for area residents through the college’s Income Tax Assistant Program, and tutoring other accounting students. “Through tutoring, I discovered that I like to teach and now plan to continue my education so that I can teach after my career as a CPA,” commented Joshua.
Joshua served an internship at a Weston company and graduated with an associate’s degree in accounting in December 2009.
