Alumna Mary Krueger

President, Saint Clare’s Hospital

In 2007 Mary Krueger was named the Wisconsin Technical College System’s 2007 Alumni of the Year. Krueger, who earned an associate’s degree in nursing from NTC in 1975, received the award for demonstrating the value of a technical college education through career advancement, community service, continued personal and educational growth, and support of the technical college system.

President of Saint Clare’s Hospital in Weston, Krueger has been a longtime advocate for women. She started an “Angel Fund,” which provided economic assistance to women receiving cancer treatment. She championed the development of a mobile screening clinic that provided low cost or free mammograms to women in northcentral Wisconsin’s rural communities, an accomplishment that earned her the 2005 Champion of Women’s Health Award from the Wisconsin Women’s Health Foundation. In 2006, she received the Athena Award from the Wausau Area Chamber of Commerce for her work in mentoring and opening doors for women in executive positions.

Under Krueger’s direction, Saint Clare’s Hospital opened as Wisconsin’s first all-digital hospital, one of the nation’s first hospitals to fully deploy computerized physician orders, and named one of the nation’s top 100 most wired hospitals each year since opening in 2005.

An avid volunteer, Krueger has served her community as a member of the NTC Foundation board, NTC’s Presidential Search Committee, Ministry Home Care and Hospice Board, Marathon County United Way Board of Directors, Associate Bank, and the Wisconsin Woodchucks. She is a frequent speaker at NTC events and functions, and personally funds an annual scholarship benefiting NTC’s nursing students.

Supporting NTC is important to Krueger on two fronts. Professionally because “NTC has responded to the need of health care employers by expanding capacity for more nursing students and medically oriented technical training programs. Through innovative collaboration with universities, NTC has provided local access for nurses who want to attain a baccalaureate degree for career advancement. NTC is truly a responsive business partner for regional employers.”

Supporting NTC is also important to Krueger on a personal front. “My career started at NTC. I think it is important to ‘pay it forward’ by supporting scholarships for students who need financial assistance to reach their educational goals. It’s a great feeling to help someone achieve a dream. I encourage all alumni to contribute to the Foundation to help make someone’s dream come true.”
