(WAUSAU, Wis.) – As part of an Honors in Action project, a group of Northcentral Technical College (NTC) students will hold an event that aims to raise awareness of the food waste problem in our country.

The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2017 from 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. in rooms E101-102 at the NTC Wausau Campus.

Attendees will have the opportunity to learn how large an issue food waste has become, including how up to 40 percent of food in the United States goes uneaten. Food is the number one contributor to landfills today, but there are numerous ways to help combat the issue, including the use of salvage grocery stores.

A panel of local experts will be on hand to help provide their unique insights on the food waste issue, with expected speakers to include an organic farmer, a chef/restaurant co-owner and a salvage grocery store owner.

The participating students are members of Beta Rho Zeta, a local chapter of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. Phi Theta Kappa’s Honors Program, Honors in Action, is designed to engage students in informed action that fosters student success and helps fulfill their mission to provide college students opportunities to grow as scholars and leaders.
