Technical Diploma

The Pharmacy Technician is a professional who works in a healthcare setting who performs pharmacy-related functions, generally working under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist. Pharmacy Technicians work in a variety of locations including hospitals, long-term care facilities, insurance companies, community agencies, etc. Job duties include dispensing medications, medical supplies and equipment to clients and teaching following a physician’s order. They also would provide basic instruction to clients about their prescriptions. There may be a variety of administrative duties associated with this role in a pharmacy setting. Pharmacy Technicians contribute to client safety in that they are required to interpret and dispense prescription medications which require the necessary skills in organization, communication, math, science, customer service and attention to detail. Graduates of this technical diploma program will be qualified to enter positions as Pharmacy Technicians, or other similar roles in a pharmacy setting, or other healthcare setting. As an Embedded Technical Diploma, this program ladders fully into the Pharmacy Services Management Associate Degree program.

CPR Requirement

Current CPR certification is required prior to clinical placement. Accepted certifications include Professional Rescuer & Healthcare Provider (ARC) or Healthcare Provider (AHA).

Criminal Background Check

This program requires a criminal background check. Acceptance to Northcentral Technical College will not be denied based on a criminal background, however, a check may be required for placement at clinical sites or field experiences.
