Applied Mechanical CAD Technician Test-Out Options

2D AUTOCAD APPLICATIONS (10606106)

Credits: 2.00

Introduces intermediate to advanced AutoCAD functions and shortcuts and explores the 3D modeling functions in AutoCAD. Applies these skills to create auxiliary views, section views and complex assemblies. The learner will create a variety of working drawings using the mechanical drawing skills obtained in the prerequisite courses and the AutoCAD software to increase skills and efficiency.

AUTODESK INVENTOR 3D CAD SOFTWARE (10606130)

Credits: 2.00

Introduces the 3-dimensional modeling software Inventor to create solid part models, sheet metal and assemblies. The learner will create parts and assemblies as well as related 2D working drawings, bills of materials and animations. Learners will practice their skills on a variety of projects with various levels of difficulty.

COLLEGE ALGEBRA W/APPS (10804195)

Credits: 3.00

This course covers those skills needed for success in Calculus and many application areas on a baccalaureate level. Topics include the real and complex number systems, polynomials, exponents, radicals, solving equations and inequalities (linear and nonlinear), relations and functions, systems of equations and inequalities (linear and nonlinear), matrices, graphing, conic sections, sequences and series, combinatories and the binomial theorem.

MANUFACTURING PROCESSES - MACHINING (10606160)

Credits: 2.00

Examines precision measurement tools and explores material removal processes, testing techniques and finishing methods as well as rapid prototyping and 3D printing. The learner will consider how these processes influence design decisions and influence part and product design.

Credits: 1.00

Develops the ability to professionally complete the process of applying for a Mechanical Design/Mechanical CAD Technician position in today's market. Learner will develop job application documents, which include cover letters and resumes. Exposes learner to proper job interviewing etiquette and provides the opportunity to practice job interviewing skills.

SOLIDWORKS FOR MECHANICAL DESIGN (10606100)

Credits: 2.00

Introduces the 3-dimensional software SolidWorks to create part models, assemblies and the subsequent 2D working drawings. The learner will begin at entry-level and progress to a beginning user status. Fundamentals of SolidWorks will be covered and mastered through the creation of various design learning activities.

TECHNICAL DETAILING (10606128)

Credits: 2.00

Expands basic knowledge and skill development of mechanical drawing. Emphasis is placed on fits and tolerances, geometric and positional dimensioning and tolerancing, assembly and detail drawings and parts lists.

Introduces basic knowledge and skill development of technical drawing with emphases on freehand sketching and introductory CAD drawing.

Develops writing skills which include prewriting, drafting, revising and editing. A variety of writing assignments is designed to help the learner analyze audience and purpose, research and organize ideas and format and design documents based on subject matter and content. Also develops critical reading and thinking skills through the analysis of a variety of written documents.
