Manufacturing Technician Test-Out Options

GAS METAL ARC WELDING (10442159)

Credits: 3.00

Develops skill in gas metal arc welding. Learners use the “mig” process in all positions on steel, stainless steel and aluminum. Required welds include fillet and groove welds with short circuit, spray and pulsed spray transfer. Weld quality is assessed per AWS D1.1 Structural Steel Code.

INTRODUCTION TO WELDING (10442101)

Credits: 2.00

Compares equipment and techniques used in the major arc welding and thermal cutting processes. Learners perform introductory level welds in the SMAW, GMAW, FCAW and GTAW processes. Learners also perform material preparation skills including shearing, grinding and thermal cutting.

LEAN MANUFACTURING FUNDAMENTALS (10623147)

Credits: 2.00

Analyzes the eight wastes of manufacturing. The learner will then explore concepts such as 5S, Total Productive Maintenance, Kanban, Value Stream Mapping. The learner will be given activities to implement concepts in their work setting.

MACHINE TOOL APPLICATIONS 1 (32420631)

Credits: 5.00

Applies shop safety guidelines and becomes familiar with common machine shop equipment. Focuses on drill press, power saw, elementary lathe and mill operations and pedestal grinding machines. Learners will gain knowledge in layout tools and procedures and the proper use of hand tools in the shop.

PRECISION INSPECTION (32420338)

Credits: 1.00

Measure machined parts using basic theory and practice of mechanical inspection. Learners will experience quality control using dimensional metrology instruments.

Develop basic proficiency in reading and interpreting machine tool prints. Learners will learn the communication process between designer and machinist.

This course provides instruction on the vital, realistic and practical methods of thinking which are in high demand in all occupations of substance today. Decision making, problem solving, detailed analysis of ideas, troubleshooting, argumentation, persuasion, creativity, setting goals and objectives and more are considered in depth as the student applies specific thinking strategies and tools to situations in a wide variety of workplace, personal, academic and cultural situations. Classroom instruction is demonstration, discussion, project and teamwork based. Assignments range from the short and simple to the detailed and complex. Reality and practicality are the focuses all through the course. These skills are in high demand by employers. Having this course in your background can significantly enhance your appeal as an employee. It certainly will make you a more adept and confident person.

WELD INSPECTION & TESTING (10442163)

Credits: 1.00

Emphasizes measurement of weld defects and assessment of weld quality conformance to common welding codes. Learners conduct etch tests, bend tests and break tests on welds. The process of procedure and welder qualification is explored through group activities.
