Applies employment communication skills. Focuses on resume writing, application letters, and interviewing strategies. Learners explore job seeking techniques associated with getting, keeping, and leaving jobs. Involves work related self-assessment, job application completion, resume and employment portfolio creation, and mock interviewing.

Applies the basic composition, structure of industrial materials and the impact on machinability. Emphasis will be placed on heat treating of common tool steels, the modification and prediction of metal behavior and physical testing of materials.

INTRODUCTION TO LEAN MANUFACTURING (10623147)

Credits: 2.00

Analyzes the eight wastes of manufacturing. The learner will then explore concepts such as 5S, Total Productive Maintenance, Kanban, Value Stream Mapping. The learner will be given activities to implement concepts in their work setting.

INTRODUCTION TO WELDING (10442101)

Credits: 2.00

Compares equipment and techniques used in the major arc welding and thermal cutting processes. Learners perform introductory level welds in the SMAW, GMAW, FCAW and GTAW processes. Learners also perform material preparation skills including shearing, grinding and thermal cutting.

MACHINE TOOL APPLICATIONS 1 (32420631)

Credits: 5.00

Applies shop safety guidelines and becomes familiar with common machine shop equipment. Focuses on drill press, power saw, elementary lathe and mill operations and pedestal grinding machines. Learners will gain knowledge in layout tools and procedures and the proper use of hand tools in the shop.

MACHINE TOOL CAD (32420351)

Credits: 1.00

Applies PC-based integrative computer graphics systems used to create and convert computer-generated designs. Emphasizes developing the skills necessary to create and modify basic computer-generated designs.

MACHINE TOOL PROGRAMMING 1 (32420339)

Credits: 1.00

Provides fundamentals of computer-controlled machine tools to include conversational language and basic G & M code programming. Emphasis on increasing productivity, setup procedures, reliability, repeatability and flexibility. Basic G & M codes work coordinates machine axis information associated with CNC machining will be taught.

Measure machined parts using basic theory and practice of mechanical inspection. Learners will experience quality control using dimensional metrology instruments.

Develop basic proficiency in reading and interpreting machine tool prints. Learners will learn the communication process between designer and machinist.

Develops advanced proficiency in reading and interpreting working industrial drawings, including assembly prints and detail prints. Specialized part prints are covered including gears, fasteners, springs, cams, plastic components and sheet metal type drawings.
