Office Technology Basics Test-Out Options

ACCOUNTING FUNDAMENTALS (10101147)

Credits: 3.00

Examines the basic accounting principles and procedures for those individuals who will work with accounting information, accountants, and in a business related setting. The learner will identify the accounting cycles, prepaid expenses, accruals, merchandise inventory, uncollectible accounts and depreciation. The course is not intended as an in-depth study of accounting.

BUSINESS PROOFREADING & EDITING (10106104)

Credits: 3.00

Provides an opportunity to develop and improve writing and proofreading skills. Learners will develop proper use of punctuation, number usage, capitalization, grammar, word choice and spelling needed to communicate effectively in a business environment. General Windows and MS Word experience strongly suggested.

COMPUTER KEYBOARDING (10106178)

Credits: 1.00

Introduces keyboarding techniques (proper finger usage and body position) through hands-on touch typing. Learners are introduced to the QWERTY keyboard (alphabet, number and symbol keys). Learners will be expected to touch-type at a minimum of 27 wpm by the end of the course. Challenge test available.

ELECTRONIC BUSINESS COMMUNICATIONS (10106170)

Credits: 3.00

Identifies the importance of telephone etiquette, knowledge of communication equipment, use of electronic mail and calendaring in the workplace. Learners will apply these techniques with hands-on activities.

INFORMATION STORAGE MANAGEMENT (10106145)

Credits: 3.00

Explores the comprehensive field of records management (creation, retrieval, retention, transfer and disposition). Learners develop ARMA principles and practices incorporating the knowledge by applying these skills to a simulated (manual and automated) record systems environment.

MODERN OFFICE TECHNOLOGIES (10106100)

Credits: 3.00

Introduces the learner to modern office technology with hands-on experience using a variety of existing and emerging technologies. Learners troubleshoot minor problems and conduct preventive maintenance common to office equipment and research new office technology. Prerequisites include a working knowledge of computers and the current Windows operating system.
