Introduces students to the Public Land Survey System (PLSS), the foundational land surveying framework used throughout much of the United States. Students explore the history, purpose, and organization of the PLSS, including principal meridians, baselines, townships, ranges, sections, aliquot parts, and legal land descriptions. The course covers methods for interpreting survey plats, maps, deeds, and other land records, as well as the role of the PLSS in boundary determination, property ownership, and civil engineering projects. Students develop the skills needed to locate, interpret, and apply PLSS information in support of surveying, engineering, and land development activities.
