SBIRT: Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment

Concerned about the opioid epidemic? Binge drinking?  Intoxicated driving? Value-based reimbursement? SBIRT can help! The Wisconsin Initiative to Promote Healthy Lifestyles (WIPHL), in partnership with Prevent Suicide Marathon County, are pleased to offer a four-hour trainings on SBIRT - alcohol and drug Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment.  SBIRT is an evidence-based, cost-saving approach that a variety of professionals can use to help the people they serve reduce their drinking, drug use and related health and social consequences.

Kiln Drying Seminar

This workshop is packed with valuable and important information for kiln operators and managers. The variety and quality of the information make this a must attend event. The workshop will focus on drying systems, controlling lumber quality, species specific drying, wood structure and drying science. Over twenty breakout topics will be covered to help you maintain a successful kiln operation.

NTC's Welcome Days

8:00AM — 1:00PM

Are you new to NTC for the fall 2017 semester? If so, you're invited to attend NTC's Welcome Days at Northcentral Technical College's Wausau Campus on Monday, August 21 or Tuesday, August 22. At Welcome Days you can meet fellow NTC students, staff and faculty, receive your student photo I.D., ask questions, and learn more about NTC. Some programs offer an orientation following lunch; see the information below for details. Register by Friday, August 11.

Internal Size-Up Firefighter Training

Northcentral Technical College (NTC), in partnership with the Firefighter Behavioral Health Alliance and retired Fire Captain Jeff Dill, is pleased to present Internal “Size-Up” training. This presentation is a fire department behavioral health awareness course designed to educate attendees on signs and symptoms, addictions and emotional and physical behaviors.

Field Training Officer

This forty-hour course is specifically designed for experienced uniformed patrol personnel selected to serve as field training officers with probationary employees.  The course emphasizes the FTO's role in assisting probationers to certify for solo patrol operations by applying the knowledge and skills acquired during basic police training/certification and using them according to agency policy, procedures and community service delivery standards and the Probationary Officer Manual training task protocols.

This course will examine basic motivational interviewing methods in therapeutic relationships, learn differences between sustain and change talk, and discuss collaborative goal setting, focus techniques, and ethical issues to equip you for greater success in your role.

Fully Involved

Fully Involved is geared toward fire professionals who wish to expand their abilities in leadership. This presentation is for anyone who wishes to lead at any level, from firefighter to chief officer. Throughout the presentation, Mark VonAppen takes participants through the leadership principles as outlined in the Fully Involved standard of performance: • Do your job • Treat people right • Give all out effort • Have an all-in attitude Participants of Fully Involved will have the opportunity to share and exchange leadership styles as well as learn about the Fully Involved 10/10 leadership pact.

Heroin on Steroids: Impact of Fentanyl, W-18 and U-47700

This one day course was designed to educate about the exploding trend of synthetic opioids. In many jurisdictions around the country already affected by illicit Fentanyl, W-18/carfentanil, and U-47700 this course has become mandatory. If your agency has not encountered these substances yet, you will! The course covers what these dangerous substances are, what they look like, where they come from and how to protect yourself from potentially deadly contact. The instructor will provide information on how to initiate and safely investigate cases involving these substances that are up to 1000 times more potent than other narcotics on the street.
