Learners will learn diagnostic sampling techniques, parenteral and enteral medication administration, venipuncture, wound management techniques, and common restraint techniques for medical procedures. Other topics of study include nutrition, radiology, toxicities and disease management.
Examines plant development and factors that affect plant growth. Through hands-on experience, text, lab and classroom activities, learners will examine environmental effects, market gardening equipment, irrigation tools, and fertilizers necessary to grow healthy, productive plants. Emphasizes crop production practices in small- and large-scale gardens, high tunnels, and a greenhouse.
Explores the fundamentals of hydroponics and growing plants using water as a growing medium. Hands-on learning activities include growing and maintaining plants in an indoor hydroponic growing facility, a bato bucket system, and vertical hydroponic gardens. Learners will discover the scientific concepts behind growing plants in hydroponic systems and become experts in alternative growing methods.
This science of psychology course is a survey of multiple aspects of behavior and mental processes. It provides an overview of topics such as research methods, theoretical perspectives, learning, cognition, memory, motivation, emotions, personality, abnormal psychology, physiological factors, social influences, and development.
Explore husbandry and care of exotic pets, pocket pets, birds and animals used for research. Topics covered include housing requirements, sanitation, nutrition, radiology, restraint and handling. Learners will practice hands on skills including administering medications, diagnostic sampling techniques and physical examinations of rats, mice, birds, rabbits, and other small mammals. This course may also work with reptiles. This course is only offered in fall semester.
Prepares learners to perform basic nursing skills under the supervision of a nurse for job entry as a nursing assistant or a home health aide (HHA) in health care agencies. Face-to-face and hybrid classroom, campus lab and clinical instruction are offered at various nursing homes and hospitals throughout the district. Students need to submit an application and complete background check.
Researches the latest science-based recommendations for battling garden and field pest problems. Throughout this course, students will learn to identify pests and plant diseases. Learners will determine what corrective action should be taken, if any. Integrated pest management concepts are covered in this course.
Introductory course focused on general biological principles, cell structure and function, genetics, organ system anatomy and physiology, behavior, evolution, and ecology. May include dissection of fresh and/or preserved materials.
Develop an understanding of terms and abbreviations used in the practice of veterinary medicine. Through reading, writing, and speech, learners will master combining forms as they relate to bodily structures, and word parts for the understanding and definition of medical procedures, treatments, and conditions.
