Introduces learners to the forms, functions, and merits of children’s literature through the evaluation of both classic and contemporary texts. Learners will read works for a variety of age levels and undertake a variety of learning activities and projects to explore historical and cultural contexts for, and influences upon, children’s literature; gain an understanding of the various genres; and, develop an appreciation of the impact of art and illustration as storytelling tools.
Analyzing and applying argumentation strategies are the primary skills developed in English Composition 2. Learners will conduct reading and writing synthesis techniques to strengthen high-level research, critical thinking and composition skills. Introduces learners to an in-depth study of major literary genres such as poetry, drama, non-fiction and fiction. Learners will demonstrate a mastery of literary terminology and organized writing; in addition, learners will conduct close readings using critical thinking skills as they synthesize scholarly criticism to conduct literary interpretations that consider cultural and historical context as well as the shared human experience. Learners will present their arguments and findings through discussions, presentations and supported written analysis.
Explores communication in media and media literacy by providing insight into the important issues that confront students as consumers and purveyors of mass media within the workforce and in society. The mass media revolution, including media technologies, the evolution of media content and platforms, including new media, the impact of media communications on business and society as a whole, media bias, and media law and ethics from the basis of the course. Prepares learners to perform basic nursing skills under the supervision of a nurse for job entry as a nursing assistant or a home health aide (HHA) in health care agencies. Face-to-face and hybrid classroom, campus lab and clinical instruction are offered at various nursing homes and hospitals throughout the district. The Nursing Assistant Instructor Train-the-Trainer Program is designed to equip healthcare professionals with the knowledge, skills, and competencies needed to effectively teach and train nursing assistant students. This comprehensive program focuses on adult learning principles, curriculum development, lesson planning, teaching strategies, and student performance evaluation. Participants will also gain expertise in supervising clinical practice and ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations governing nursing assistant education.
