Choosing the right plants, selecting the containers and tools, and caring for the plants throughout the growing season is covered. Small space container gardens can provide a bounty of food in a very small space.
Builds on the content in Greenhouse Operation and Design by providing the learners additional hands-on experience managing a greenhouse structure on a year-round basis. Greenhouse coverings, environmental controls, and monitoring equipment will be covered throughout this course. Learners will actively participate in the operation of a greenhouse and hoop house as they determine methods of monitoring temperature, ventilation, and plant growth.
Explores the scope of the horticulture sector, including career opportunities. Familiarizes learners with the Agriculture Center of Excellence and standard operating procedures. Learners will begin to develop a strategic college plan. Learners will be exposed to the various opportunities available throughout their program of study.
Examine entrepreneurship applications of operating a market garden. Learners will simulate a small market garden business as they determine inventory, storage, sales, pricing, profit, and loss for their business. Business exploration will include farmers' market stands, community-supported agriculture (CSA) operations, and roadside stands. Customer buying decisions, sales techniques, and visual merchandising produce concepts are covered in this course.
Prepares learners to perform basic nursing skills under the supervision of a nurse for job entry as a nursing assistant or a home health aide (HHA) in health care agencies. Face-to-face and hybrid classroom, campus lab and clinical instruction are offered at various nursing homes and hospitals throughout the district. Students need to submit an application and complete background check.
Examines plant morphology, growth and development, and plant lifecycles and reproduction. This course analyzes the effects of external and environmental factors on plant growth and productivity. Laboratory activities include examining and identifying plant cells and plant structures using microscopes, plant models and live plants. Plant structures and their functions are discussed in relevance to production practices. Learners will conduct a plant-based research project using the Scientific Method. Plant taxonomy is covered in this course, and learners will gain the necessary skills to identify important garden, specialty, and agronomic crops in Wisconsin.
The Nursing Assistant Instructor Train-the-Trainer Program is designed to equip healthcare professionals with the knowledge, skills, and competencies needed to effectively teach and train nursing assistant students. This comprehensive program focuses on adult learning principles, curriculum development, lesson planning, teaching strategies, and student performance evaluation. Participants will also gain expertise in supervising clinical practice and ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations governing nursing assistant education.
Learner must have valid Wisconsin RN license and two years work experience (one year in long-term, home health, or rehabilitation care). This course will meet the state requirement for nurses who wish to become nursing assistant instructors.
