Prepares dental auxiliary students to respond proactively to dental emergencies, control infection, prevent disease, adhere to OSHA Standards and safely manage hazardous materials. Students also take patient vital signs and collect patient medical/dental histories. CPR certification is a prerequisite; students will be required to show proof of certification before beginning the course. This course is a WTCS aligned course required in both the Dental Hygienist and Dental Assistant programs. This course must be taken at NTC, no transfers, because the content of this course is specific for this program/site.
Explore the design and troubleshooting of Ethernet/IP networks. Topics introduce students to integrating Ethernet networking communications, architectures, protocols, and security. Students will learn through hands-on lab activities covering setting up communication systems, networking configurations, and troubleshooting techniques.
Prepares dental auxiliary students to operate x-ray units and expose bitewing, periapical, extra oral and occlusal radiographs. Emphasis is placed on protection against x-ray hazards. Students also process, mount and evaluate radiographs for diagnostic value. In this course students demonstrate competency on a manikin. In addition, students expose bitewing radiographs on a peer, role-play patient. Students gain further experience in exposing radiographs on patients in the clinical portion of their program. This course also provides the background in radiographic theory required for students to make informed decisions and adjustments.
This clinical course builds on and expands the technical/clinical skills student dental hygienists began developing in Dental Hygiene Process I. Under the direct supervision of an instructor, students apply patient care assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation skills to provide comprehensive care for calculus case type 1 and 2 patients and perio case patients. Dental Hygiene Process II introduces the application of fluoride and desensitizing agents, whole mouth assessments, comprehensive periodontal examinations, application of sealants and patient classification. Students also begin performing removal of supragingival stain, dental plaque, calcified accretions and deposits. The course reinforces the application of Dental Health Safety skills.
Prepares student dental hygienists to assess the periodontal health of patients, plan prevention and treatment of periodontal disease and to evaluate the effectiveness of periodontal treatment plans. Emphasis is placed on the recognition of the signs and causes of periodontal disease and on selection of treatment modalities that minimize risk and restore periodontal health.
Prepares the student dental hygienist to determine when to consult, treat or refer clients with various disease, infection or physiological conditions. Students learn to recognize the signs, causes and implications of common pathological conditions including inflammatory responses, immune disorders, genetic disorders, developmental disorders of tissues and cysts, oral tissue trauma and neoplasm of the oral cavity.
Learn what remote IO is and how to implement a POINT I/O system. The course will cover determining the quantity and type of I/O needed to test your system. This course will also show students how to calculate power requirements and decide whether an expansion power supply will be needed. Students will also add and configure an Ethernet adapter and I/O modules in a Studio 5000 Logix Designer project.
Explores the foundations of using Factory Talk View Studio Machine Edition to program a PanelView Plus 7 terminal. Learners will learn to configure communications with Logix Programmable Controllers, configure project settings, create and edit displays, create tags, browse controller tags, global objects, global connections, trending, data logging, alarms, and animations.
Introduces the concept of looking at a current outdated automation process or future automation process and understanding how to correctly specify the hardware components that will be used to update the machine or process with today’s automation technology. The concept of creating and writing a project proposal will also be covered.
