Provides the learner with opportunities to practice the principles and procedures of laboratory medicine in a clinical laboratory setting including the operation of state of the art instrumentation and the use of laboratory information systems to report results. The fourteen competencies will be divided between Clinical Experience 1, Clinical Experience 2 and Clinical Experience 3. Order that competencies will be covered vary based on staffing at clinical sites.
Prepares learners in the operation of commercial motor vehicles. Extensive hands-on training will be implemented throughout the course on tractor-trailers, giving the learner the skills needed to test for a Class A Commercial Driver’s License. Limited lecture will be used to inform students of industry regulations, driver safety, inspections and communication.
Prepares dental auxiliary students to respond proactively to dental emergencies, control infection, prevent disease, adhere to OSHA Standards and safely manage hazardous materials. Students also take patient vital signs and collect patient medical/dental histories. CPR certification is a prerequisite; students will be required to show proof of certification before beginning the course. This course is a WTCS aligned course required in both the Dental Hygienist and Dental Assistant programs. This course must be taken at NTC, no transfers, because the content of this course is specific for this program/site.

The DOJ Phase I Written Examination will be administered in this course.

Develops skills needed to diagnose and repair automotive electrical and electronic systems. Applying knowledge of wiring diagrams along with manufactures descriptions and diagnostic procedures, Learners perform and evaluate testing and repairs on today’s computer controlled starting, charging, and battery systems.
Further experience in a clinical setting allows the student to continue to improve technical skills while accepting more responsibilities during surgical procedures. Surgical rotation case requirements are documented.
Diagnose engine ignition systems, computer control systems and engine sensors. This course will carry the learner beyond basic tune-ups into the world of computer controlled systems. Learners will study the engine sensors that feed data to an on-board computers. They will learn how the computer processes and then uses data to make a host of real time decisions concerning ignition and emission controls. Learners will get hands on training on late model cars to reinforce classroom theory. The use of DVOMs, scan tools, oscilloscopes, pressure transducers, and computer self-diagnostics will be covered.
Applies basic methodology and operations of lathes, mills and grinding machines. Focuses on speeds and feeds, basic work holding devices and cutting tools. Milling machine applications to include: project planning, basic milling machine setups and operations and in-process inspection. Lathe applications to include: work planning, basic lathe setups to utilize basic work holding practices and in-process inspection.
Focuses on the six major nutrients (carbohydrates, proteins, fats, minerals, vitamins and water) and how each is used by the body. The planning of well-balanced diets and nutritional analysis of diets are emphasized.
Examine sales and promotion strategies used in the restaurant industry. Study of attracting new customers, setting prices, developing visually appealing menus and displays, and investigating innovative methods of attracting and keeping customers.

Introduces the learner to technologies, processes, and machine centers used in the production of millwork, furniture, and wood components. Through classroom discussion and hands-on practice, learners will explore the variable that affect product quality and yield. Specific machinery covered within this course includes the jointer, planer, optimizing rip saw, optimizing chop saw, shaper, manual six spindle moulder, profile grinder, and optical measuring stand.
Make fillet and groove welds in all positions using .045" flux cored wire. Assessments for this course are 100% lab based with a focus on weld quality and technique. Weld quality is assessed per D1.1 - Structural Steel Code.
This advanced clinical course requires the student to integrate concepts from all previous courses in the management of groups of clients facing complex health alterations. Students will have the opportunity to further develop critical thinking skills using the nursing process in making clinical decisions. Continuity of care through interdisciplinary collaboration is emphasized.
This clinical experience integrates all knowledge learned in the previous courses in transitioning to the role of the graduate nurse. The course promotes relatively independent clinical decisions, delegation, and works collaboratively with others to achieve client and organizational outcomes. Continued professional development is fostered.
Investigates the effects of welding on the mechanical properties of metals. Learners explore hardness, strength, and weldability of various metals. Concepts are applied in various activities, including heat treating, hardness testing and tensile testing.
This class allows the student to demonstrate the ability to solve a design problem using materials and information learned in all other Wood Processes classes. A team comprised of fellow classmates will determine a design problem, research solutions, design the product, machine or equipment required to solve the problem, establish a budget for building a prototype and then build a proof-of-concept prototype. Documents and skills required to present expertise to potential employers will be developed.
Utilizing the culinary skills learned throughout the program, learners will create high-end foods utilizing a variety of cooking techniques. Emphasis will be on presentation, flavors, cooking skills and time management as learners work in a production environment.
Develop basic skills creating 2D and 3D geometry part models using Computer-Aided Design (CAD). Learners will then learn how to create CNC tool paths using Computer-Aided Machining (CAM). Learners will also learn file management by saving, converting, and working with different file types.
This clinical experience applies nursing concepts and therapeutic nursing interventions to groups of patients across the lifespan. It also provides an introduction to leadership, management, and team building.
Examine how personality, teamwork and ethics contribute to both personal and professional success within the cosmetology industry. Through implementation of safety and infection control practices, learners will execute a positive guest experience including, the greeting of guests to completion of services. Learners will complete this course in an on-campus salon environment.
Expands on engine component function and understanding through cylinder head disassembly and evaluation. Engine clean care, proper tune-up procedures and application of service tools is also emphasized.
Make fillet and groove welds using 1/16" diameter flux cored wire. In addition, students perform fillet welds in the flat and horizontal positions with the submerged arc welding process. Assessments for this course are 100 % lab based with a focus on weld quality and technique. Weld quality is assessed per D1.1 - Structural Steel Code.
Introduces theoretical concepts in anatomy and physiology related to the profession. The study of the structure, growth, diseases, disorders and conditions of the nail. The study of anatomy of the hand, arm, foot, and leg to effectively apply massage techniques. Safety and infection control practices will be introduced with procedures to be followed with each and every service.
Examines the key maintenance responsibilities of the saw filer. Learners will be introduced to welding methods used to repair saws and will spend time applying these techniques in the saw filing room. In addition, students will examine band mill related maintenance assessing saw guides and band mill alignment.
Builds on skills learned in Truck Driving 1 and 2, as students hone skills and practice to test for a Class A Commercial Driver’s License. This course will focus on hands-on training in advanced driving operations, backing skills, weight distribution techniques, and trip planning.
Introduces the preparation of clear, cream, puree and specialty soups. Learners will prepare basic stocks and soups. Additionally learners will evaluate convenience soups and stocks for quality and cost.
Introduces process fundamentals, electrode selection and machine setup are discussed. Learners use Low hydrogen, "stick" electrodes to complete fillet and groove welds in all positions. Weld quality is assessed per AWS D1.1 - Structural Steel Code.
Emphasizes schematic interpretation with applications towards diagnosis and repair. In depth lighting, gauge, battery, starting and charging systems and their diagnostic strategies will be examined. Through a lab setting, learners will implement meter usage and electrical testing.
Diagnose fuel systems and emission control systems. This course will cover the theory of operation, diagnosis, service and repair of fuel systems including TBI, MPI and DI systems. Also vehicle emissions systems including PCV, EGR, EVAP, Catalytic Converters and OBD II computer systems will be taught. Learners will get hands on training on late model cars to reinforce classroom theory. Learners will also be trained in the use of: oscilloscopes, engine analyzers, gas benches, EGR testers, scan tools and various computer self-diagnostics tools.
This course is a study of design, construction and service of vehicle braking systems. Emphasis is placed on disc and drum applications, power brake units, the machining of brake drum and rotors, hydraulic systems and components along with maintenance and the parking brake system.
This intermediate level clinical course develops the RN role when working with clients with complex health care needs. A focus of the course is developing skills needed for managing multiple clients across the lifespan and priorities. Using the nursing process, students will gain experience in adapting nursing practice to meet the needs of clients with diverse needs and backgrounds.
