Covers the fundamentals of circular saw use, maintenance and repair. Learners identify saw types and applications, tooling materials, arbor systems, key terminology and specialized tools used to repair and sharpen saws. Trade formulas are applied to calculate chip bite, feed rate and horsepower requirements. Learners develop hands-on benching skills by evaluating saw flatness, body and plate tension, wear and common deformations, including lumps, spokes, ridges and bends. Hammers, straight edges, indicators, micrometers and stretch rolls are used to repair saw body conditions and achieve proper flatness and tension. Proper PPE and safe work practices are incorporated throughout the course.
