Wisconsin state law requires that students in specific programs complete a Criminal/Caregiver Background Check to fully complete program requirements. Students may also be required to provide health record documentation (including immunizations and vaccinations) prior to beginning clinical course requirements.

Please note that acceptance to Northcentral Technical College will not be denied based on a criminal background. A background check is required for programs that include placement into clinical sites or field experience. These checks could prevent students from completing all course requirements necessary for graduation, gaining licensure and finding employment.

How Do Background Checks and Health Record Submissions Work?

We will notify you when it is time to complete a background check or submit health records and also provide instructions on how to complete those processes through www.viewpointscreening.com/ntc. There is a fee associated with this service (see below listed by program).

Background Checks

All programs included in the list below require a review of your personal history. If you had a mandatory court appearance, it would most likely appear on your background check. However, items found during a background check will be considered on a case-by-case basis by the sites where clinical, internship and field experience is required for program completion.

State law DHS 12, prohibits individuals with certain offenses from working as a caregiver. State law requires persons providing hands on care to complete a Background Disclosure Form (F-82064, Chapters 48.685 and 50.065 of Wisconsin State Statues). Failure to provide honest disclosure of past offenses and current charges can result in a $1000 fine and your denial of access to participation in the clinical portion of the course. If you have new charges against you during the course of your training, you must fully disclose those within one business day to your instructor ((DHS 12.07, 1). In addition, NTC will run a full criminal and caregiver background check on enrolled students. Background check information is considered public record and will be shared with the clinical sites (Chapter 2.3.0). You may be required to bring in documentation concerning any offense found on your record. The clinical site will decide if any convictions or charges are substantially related to the duties performed by a student caregiver (Chapter 2.1.3) and by law have the right to refuse admittance to their facility. They may request that addition information be provided. Failure to comply honestly and promptly with all the above listed requirements will result in a student being dropped from a course.
