WAUSAU, Wis. (June 11, 2026) — The first cohort of Dental Therapy students will begin hands-on training at Northcentral Technical College (NTC) this fall. NTC is extending the application deadline for the program following a new loan forgiveness option that could provide financial support to students who would like to begin in August. The dental therapy application deadline has been extended to Friday, June 26.
Dental therapy is a growing profession that plays an important role in expanding access to oral health care across Wisconsin.
As of July 1, Dental Therapists working in Wisconsin may be eligible for the Wisconsin Health Professions Loan Assistance Program. Dental Therapists who work full-time providing patient care may qualify for up to $25,000 in loan repayment in exchange for a three-year commitment to practice in a designated Health Professional Shortage Area in Wisconsin.
To qualify, providers must work in an outpatient setting located in a federally designated rural or urban dental shortage area or in a free and charitable clinic. Eligible providers must also be serving patients enrolled in Medicaid or BadgerCare.
This program is competitive, but it is a great opportunity for Dental Therapists who want to serve communities with limited access to dental care while also receiving financial support to help pay down education loans.
Dental therapy students may qualify for loan repayment option.
