NTC’s Wood Technology courses are held at the Wood Technology Center of Excellence, located on our Antigo campus. The one-of-a-kind, 27,000 square foot facility features the newest and greatest equipment used in the forest products and woodworking industry.

In this environment, surrounded by cutting-edge equipment, you can learn about many different aspects of and techniques used in the wood industry. We can also develop a customized session when a training need is identified, and bring in the right industry experts to facilitate it.

Industrial Courses

These hands-on workshops provide those in the wood industry with the training needed to advance their skills. When a training need is identified, we develop a customized session and then bring in the right industry experts to facilitate it. Examples of trainings include: GLKDA Kiln Drying, Moulder Set-Up and Knife Grinding, Hardwood Log Grading and Scaling, and more.

GLKDA Kiln Drying Workshop

This fast-paced workshop is packed with valuable and important information for kiln operators and managers. Over twenty breakout topics will be covered to help you maintain a successful kiln operation. The variety and quality of the information makes this a must attend event.

Moulder Set-Up and Knife Grinding

In this hands-on workshop, you will learn the step-by-step procedures for accurately setting up production moulders and properly grinding profile knives. In the classroom, time will be spent focusing on basic moulder theory and principles that impact machining quality.

Hardwood Log Grading and Scaling Workshop

In this hands-on workshop, you will learn how to apply log scaling principles and grading criteria used by industry professionals to merchandise hardwood logs. This training will consist of both a classroom portion as well as instruction off-site at a local sawmill.

Intro to Woodworking

Interested in pursuing a satisfying and rewarding hobby? Perhaps you are already a novice woodworker looking to learn more about shop tools and machine function. If so, our Introduction to Woodworking Tools class might be the perfect fit for you. During this one day class, you will learn how to safely set-up and operate common woodworking machines, while discussing how to select the right tool for the job.

Portable Sawmill Clinic

Attendees of this workshop will be exposed to the entire process of turning logs into lumber with a portable sawmill. Geared towards curious and new sawyers alike, participants will dive into the how to break down logs into lumber sustainably and understand the business aspects from log quality and sourcing to manufacturing processes and product markets.
