Funding will expand high-demand programs, improve completion rates and strengthen regional workforce partnerships. WAUSAU, Wis. (March 30, 2026) — Northcentral Technical College (NTC) has been awarded more than $3 million in state and federal grant funding for the 2026–27 academic year. The funding will support programs that help students complete their education and prepare for in-demand careers across north central Wisconsin.
The grants, approved through the Wisconsin Technical College System, will fund initiatives in student success, career training and community workforce development.
A significant portion of the funding will support students directly. NTC will expand services that help students stay enrolled, complete their programs and succeed in high-demand fields such as health care.
"This funding allows us to meet students where they are and support them every step of the way,” said Dr. Jeannie Worden, president of NTC. “It’s about creating real opportunities for people to build skills, earn credentials and succeed in careers that are vital to our communities.”
The college will also use funding to update and strengthen career training programs. These investments include improvements to diesel technology, expansion of administrative programs that include artificial intelligence skills and continued development of programs such as sign language interpreting and veterinary technician training.
Some grants will support new and expanded pathways for students. These include building stronger transfer opportunities to four-year colleges and launching a new community advocacy and engagement program.
Additional funding will support workforce and community partnerships. These efforts include career preparation programs with K-12 school districts, initiatives to reduce achievement gaps and programs that help individuals re-enter the workforce after incarceration.
NTC also received funding to assist students facing financial emergencies and to provide professional development opportunities for faculty and staff.
Adult education and literacy programs will benefit from the funding as well. These programs help individuals build basic skills, earn credentials and prepare for employment or career advancement.
Overall, the funding supports one main goal: helping more students complete training that leads directly to jobs, especially in high-demand industries.
