(WAUSAU, Wis.) – Northcentral Technical College (NTC) is pleased to announce the Community Safety Simulation Center (CSSC), located at NTC’s Public Safety Center of Excellence (1603 Champagne St., Merrill, WI 54452).
The CSSC is designed to prepare individuals to address emerging security threats through immersive scenarios and classroom instruction, with an initial focus on schools, places of worship and healthcare environments.
This 3,500 square foot facility boasts a fully adaptable, multi-room space with 360-degree smart screens designed to immerse participants in custom training scenarios. Through advanced audio-visual capabilities, teams can review their actions and discuss alternative approaches, allowing for critical reflection and skill refinement. This realistic, hands-on experience ensures individuals and teams develop the critical thinking, communication and problem-solving skills necessary to navigate high-stress situations effectively.
“This work is more important than ever as schools, places of worship, healthcare providers and community organizations strive to prepare for challenges and protect the people they serve,” said Dr. Jeannie Worden, President of NTC.
The CSSC was developed in collaboration with NTC, the Pennsylvania School Boards Association and Pennsylvania School Safety Institute (PenSSI). The project was made possible through generous donations from the Bierman Family Foundation and Church Mutual CM Cares. The facility is part of NTC’s Public Safety Center of Excellence, a 36-acre property that offers facilities and wilderness areas for law enforcement and tactical training, fire and rescue training, transportation and emergency driving, as well as community response sites.
