As veterans, reservists and members of the guard, there are federal and state educational benefits of which you may be eligible. You may also be eligible if you are a dependent, spouse or survivor of a veteran. This page provides general information about the various benefits that are available, as well as veteran services at NTC.
Important Information About Using Veteran Benefits at NTC
- The federal Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) will only pay for courses that are required for graduation from your VA eligible program.
- Students wishing to use WI GI Bill benefits should submit the application to the school and the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA) by the 14th calendar day of the term for timely consideration.
- After enrolling in classes each semester, you must notify the NTC Veterans Certifying Official of your enrollment and intent to use benefits by completing the online VA Benefit Certification Request Form.
- VA benefits are paid according to dates of classes. Therefore, accelerated/short classes can have a significant impact on your payments.
- If you are eligible for a book stipend, be prepared to pay out-of-pocket for books as the book stipend may not arrive in time for classes.
- Students should be ready for unexpected delays in processing and payments as the VA may become overloaded with claims.
- Students using Chapter 30, 1606 and 1607 must verify their attendance every month to receive payment. This can be done online at www.va.gov/education or by calling 1.877.823.2378.
- Students using VA education benefits must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) guidelines established by NTC to continue using VA education benefits.
- Students are responsible for all expenses not covered by the veteran benefits.
- We encourage all students to apply for financial aid by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). For more information, visit www.ntc.edu/admissions/financial-aid.

Please visit www.ntc.edu/apply for information about admissions to NTC. All federal VA educational benefits require students to be accepted into a VA-eligible program and taking program courses.
Applying for Benefits
Before applying, please review all benefits carefully, as election to use certain benefits may prohibit you from using others. Speak to a VA representative about benefit counseling if you have questions about the following benefits:
Federal Educational Benefits
- Apply online at www.va.gov
- Upon completion and submission, print a copy of the confirmation page and submit to the NTC Veterans Certifying Official with the following documents:
- Discharge Papers (DD214 – member 4)
- Notice of Basic Eligibility (NOBE – DD 2384) – if applicable
- Kicker Documentation – if applicable
- VA form 22-1995 – if you’ve used VA benefits at a previous school
Wisconsin GI Bill
- Review the Wisconsin GI Bill booklet (WDVA B0105), which can be found at dva.wi.gov
- Complete and submit the WDVA form 2029 to the NTC Certifying Official with required documents
- Complete and submit the WDVA form 2030 to the State Department of Veteran Affairs. View application checklist to ensure all proper documents are attached.
VetEd Reimbursement Grant
Submit an application at dva.wi.gov (Note: applications must be received by the WDVA within 60 days of the start of the class)
National Guard Reimbursement Grant
Submit DMA form 189-E to the NTC Veteran Certifying Official before the end of the term. Forms can be found at: dma.wi.gov

State Benefits
WI GI Bill
The WI GI Bill offers 100 percent waiver of tuition (program and material fees) for eligible veterans and eligible spouses/children of deceased or disabled veterans. WI GI can be used for up to eight semesters or 128 credits, whichever is longer. NOTE: WI GI does not waive supplemental fees, activity fees and other fees.
- Qualifying children must be between ages 17 and 26 to use.
- WI GI Bill has a very unique relationship to federal benefits. For more information regarding the relationship between Federal and State benefits, please visit the WTCS veteran services page.
- For timely consideration, WI GI Bill applications should be submitted to the NTC Veterans Certifying Official and the WDVA by the 14th calendar day of the semester start date.
VetEd Reimbursement Grant
The VetEd program provides reimbursement of tuition following successful completion of full- or part-time coursework.
- Students must first apply for other educational benefits including the WI GI Bill.
- Applications must be received by the WDVA within 60 days of the term.
