Provides an overview of acid fast organisms, fungi, parasites, and anaerobic bacteria. The organisms, their pathophysiology, epidemiology, the diseases and conditions that they cause, laboratory methods of handling, culturing and identification will be discussed.
This Basic Motorcycle Rider course consists of classroom and range instruction designed for beginning riders and was developed by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF). The Basic Rider Course covers preparing to ride, turning, shifting and braking, street strategies, special situations, increasing riding skills, maintenance and insurance. Instructors are certified by the MSF and Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT). It is taught off-street, out of traffic, and motorcycles and helmets are provided. In addition there is a 5 hour ECourse that must be completed within 30 days prior to class(fees for ECourse are included in the overall class price).
This American Heart Association approved course covers adult and pediatric CPR and FBAO, two-rescuer CPR, barrier devices and AED. The course focuses on the needs of the professional caregiver. Successful completion includes American Heart Association certification that is valid for two years. Textbook required, can be purchased at NTC's Campus Store.

Emphasis is placed on ethical practice, safety, and the use of evidence-based strategies such as motivational interviewing and reflective practitioner methods to address stress, secondary trauma, and burnout.

An introduction to theory and practice of group dynamics and processes. Includes ethical considerations, effective group leadership, and stages of group development. Also includes demonstration of group facilitation skills, clinical documentation, co-facilitation strategies, reflective practitioner techniques, and group formation.
Analyze foundational skills in the counseling relationship. Analyze the stages of the helping processes and the roles professionals play in the processes. Analyze the importance of establishing therapeutic relationships. Apply basic counseling techniques. Apply interviewing and counseling skills through mock counseling sessions and personal experience reflections. Examine issues of boundaries and ethics.
Explores the complex social, environmental, and individual factors that influence the safety and well-being of children and families. Learners examine patterns of maltreatment, laws, and child welfare policies such as the Wisconsin Children’s Code, the Indian Child Welfare Act, and the Adoption and Safe Families Act. Learners build on prior knowledge of communication, documentation, and human development to apply evidence-based approaches such as motivational interviewing and trauma-informed care. Emphasis is placed on ethical practice, professional boundaries, and family-centered strategies that promote prevention, intervention, and well-being across diverse communities.
Utilizes Wisconsin Statutes to conduct in-depth studies in juvenile law. Areas of concentration are crimes against children, children in need of protection and services, and the juvenile justice code. Analyzes the role of law enforcement and other agencies in responding to and investigating juvenile procedures. Methods and models of prevention and rehabilitation are evaluated.
Provides an overview to the history, diagnosis, treatment strategies, legal and ethical considerations, and documentation of mental health conditions. Focus is on understanding the mental health conditions that co-occur with substance use disorders.
Focuses on performing the mathematical calculations routinely used in laboratory settings. The learner will explore the concepts of quality control and quality assurance in the laboratory.
The Traffic Safety (Point Reduction) class is designed by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) to review basic safe driving concepts and may be attended by anyone. Emphasis will be placed on how to develop a personal change plan to reduce the risk of traffic violations and crashes. Upon successful completion of the class, the student may request a three (3) point reduction of the demerit points on their license. NOTE: This course can be taken for point reduction purposes once every three years.
