Introduces skills to effectively plan and manage meetings, event pre-planning activities, facilitate meetings and events, produce minutes of meetings, coordinate equipment and facility setup, complete travel arrangements and conduct follow-up activities.
Provides experience working with integrated medical office software that covers practice management and Electronic Health Records (EHR). Learners will utilize a web-based system to practice common daily medical office tasks such as scheduling, insurance billing and setting up patient records.
Applies skills developed through business technology program courses and updates career documentation and completes a 45-hour supervised work experience in an office setting applying previously learned skills (business writing; customer service; office software; problem-solving; work organization; team work, and soft skills) related to an office environment.
Evaluate career opportunities and compare to relative skills to prepare appropriate career documentation and a mock interview. Develop a career portfolio and recognize the process of the job search as well as accepting and leaving a position.
Introduces keyboarding techniques (proper finger usage and body position) through hands-on touch typing. Learners are introduced to the QWERTY keyboard (alphabet, number and symbol keys). Learners will be expected to touch-type at a minimum of 27 wpm by the end of the course. Challenge test available.
Identifies the importance of telephone etiquette, knowledge of communication equipment, use of electronic mail and calendaring in the workplace. Learners will apply these techniques with hands-on activities.
Applies keyboarding techniques (proper finger usage and body position) through hands-on touch typing on a QWERTY keyboard (alphabet, number and symbol keys). Learners are expected to enter this course with a minimum of 27 wpm. Learners will develop an increased rate of touch-typing at a minimum of 40 words per minute (wpm) and 26 npm (numbers) by the end of the course.
Explores goal setting, business and social etiquette, business grooming and wardrobe, professional ethics, attitudes and standards. Learners will also explore job search strategies, professional growth, successful personal/interpersonal work-related behavior and soft skills.
Introduces the learner to managing and creating professional business email communication, contacts/groups, appointments, and meeting scheduling within Microsoft Outlook. Learners will further examine and manage the Microsoft Outlook environment for productivity.
Explores the skills needed to work in a health care office. Learners focus on business office management; communication, reception, appointment scheduling, records management, telephone procedures, daily transactions, medical billing and collecting, insurance and coding basics, composing routine business correspondence and keeping an inventory of supplies.
Develop proper use of punctuation, number usage, capitalization, grammar, word choice and spelling to communicate effective writing and proofreading in a business environment. General Windows and MS Word experience strongly suggested.
Introduces the learner to techniques for success in the Business Technology Programs. Examines various learning modes, use of the course LMS, NTC email, Business Technology Student Engagement form, tips to improve study habits, and explores the many services and opportunities available to learners at NTC. Examines the requirements for the Business Technology Program Portfolio. This portfolio will be a combination of artifacts from each of the program core classes.
Introduces proper techniques (proper finger usage and body position) and touch method using a numeric keypad. Learners will develop speed and accuracy to meet industry standards for data entry of 8,000+ ksph. Challenge test available.
This state approved course prepares you for the National Restaurant Association Certification examination from the Department of Health and Social Services by providing managers and employees in the food-service industry the knowledge of food-safety procedures. By taking this state approved course and passing the certification examination, you will be eligible to apply for your Certified Food Manager License from the Department of Health and Social Services. The National Restaurant Association certification examination is the third night of the course. Textbook required from the NTC Bookstore.
This class offers an exam-only option for students who feel they can successfully complete the ServSafe Manager exam without instruction. Note: Due to frequent changes in food safety regulations that are included on the exam, it is strongly recommended that students take the certification course to ensure successful completion of the exam and license renewal.
