FIRE FIGHTING PRINCIPLES (10503142)

Emphasizes basic fire behavior, techniques used to control structural and related fire emergencies and life safety practices. Learners perform all practical evolutions necessary to control and extinguish fires and otherwise meet all requirements for Firefighter 1 certification with the state of Wisconsin.

HAZARDOUS MATERIALS OPERATIONS (10503203)

Prepares the participant to perform the minimum hazardous material incident operations associated with firefighting functions. Meets operational level competencies referenced in the JPRs in NFPA 1001 - Standard for Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications

GEN ANATOMY & PHYSIOLOGY (10806177)

Examines basic concepts of human anatomy and physiology as they relate to health sciences. Using a body systems approach, the course emphasizes the interrelationships between structure and function at the gross and microscopic levels of organization. Intended to prepare health care professionals who need to apply basic concepts of anatomy and physiology to informed decision-making and professional communication in the clinical setting.

Student is highly recommended to have completed two semesters of high school chemistry or one semester of college chemistry with a "C" or better. Student is required to take the Pre-General A&P Assessment upon enrollment. All third attempts for enrollment require Dean/Assoc. Dean approval.

This course is designed for learners to develop knowledge and skills in all aspects of the writing process. Planning, organizing, writing, editing and revising are applied through a variety of activities. ADVANCED FIREFIGHTER CONCEPTS (10503160)

Builds upon the foundation laid in Fire Fighting Principles as well as adds new concepts such as vehicle extrication, flammable liquids fire, technical rescue and incident command. This course will meet the requirements of NFPA 1001 for Firefighter 2 level.

SPECIAL RESCUE (10503161)

Provides an introduction to high angle, water, confined space, building collapse and trench rescue and will be done in the classroom as well as practical exercises. Vehicle extrication taught in Advanced Firefighter Concepts will be expanded into handling difficult scenarios and using different tools.

FIREMEDIC INTERNSHIP (10503204)

Allows FireMedic program students to actively participate as a 'working' member of a fire department. Students work the 24-hour shift schedule at one full-time local fire department, and perform the same duties as the firefighters. Evaluation is determined by fire department officials and the course instructor.

PARAMEDIC TRAUMA (10531920)

Successful completion of this course requires the learner to meet all clinical/field requirements leading up to the paramedic field capstone phase of education.

PARAMEDIC PROGRAM CAPSTONE (10531934)

Provides the learner with a final opportunity to incorporate their cognitive, psychomotor, and affective skills through labs and scenario-based practice and evaluations prior to taking the National Registry examinations. Technical skills attainment (TSA) for each student will be compiled and/or documented within this course as required by the DHS-approved paramedic curriculum. Learners will also participate in a field capstone internship as identified by CoAEMSP accreditation in which the learner must be provided with an opportunity to serve as team leader in a variety of pre-hospital advanced life support emergency medical situations.
