The Phlebotomy Technician Technical Diploma is a 13–15 Credit* program. The following is a typical semester breakdown of the courses within the program.

Explores laboratory science career options and the fundamental principles and procedures performed in the laboratory. Learners will utilize medical terminology and basic laboratory equipment. Learners will follow required safety and infection control procedures and perform simple laboratory tests.

Practical training in phlebotomy skills at a clinical site. Travel to clinical sites will be required.



This course provides a basic understanding of the theoretical foundations of ethical thought. Diverse ethical perspectives will be used to analyze and compare relevant issues. Students will critically evaluate individual, social and/or professional standards of behavior and apply a systematic decision-making process to these situations.

Examines proven strategies designed to help learners achieve greater personal, academic, and professional success. Learners will apply personal responsibility thinking and behaviors; self- management, awareness, and motivation strategies; as well as interdependence skills to develop a proactive life plan.

Focuses on the component parts of medical terms: prefixes, suffixes and word roots. Students practice formation, analysis and reconstruction of terms. Emphasis on spelling, definition and pronunciation. Introduction to operative, diagnostic, therapeutic and symptomatic terminology of all body systems, as well as systemic and surgical terminology.

Examines basic concepts of human anatomy and physiology as they relate to health sciences. Using a body systems approach, the course emphasizes the interrelationships between structure and function at the gross and microscopic levels of organization. Intended to prepare health care professionals who need to apply basic concepts of anatomy and physiology to informed decision-making and professional communication in the clinical setting.

Student is highly recommended to have completed two semesters of high school chemistry or one semester of college chemistry with a "C" or better. Student is required to take the Pre-General A&P Assessment upon enrollment. All third attempts for enrollment require Dean/Assoc. Dean approval.

Prepares hands-on caregivers to function professionally in the hospital or clinic environment. The learner will participate in and evaluate health care experiences from the perspective of the patient. It will help healthcare providers to remember there is a person behind the disease. Understanding the experience of illness and disease from the patient's perspective can help caregivers provide reassurance, communicate caring and foster healing of body and mind. Patients who feel listened to and cared for are much more likely to be satisfied customers and return to the agency for their future health care needs.



Prepares learners to perform basic nursing skills under the supervision of a nurse for job entry as a certified nursing assistant (CNA) or a home health aide (HHA) in health care agencies. Face-to-face and hybrid classroom, campus lab and clinical instruction are offered at various nursing homes and hospitals throughout the district. Students need to submit an application and complete background check.
